The US's overly agressive foreign policy and arrogant asumption that they are the worlds police force has caused a lot of global instability I think you will agree. Nobody has been able to do anything about it so far. Maybe a new approach is needed, in the interests of world peace and self preservation.
Imagine the senario where the US attacks iran. The other arab nations would join in against the US, Russia, possibly China and the US would call on its allys in the form of the NATO alliance, canada, australia and obviously israel. Basically what you have here is an escalating world war between nuclear capable countries, one of which is so trigger happy to use nuke that once a year, it parades the effin things through the streets.
Now consider another senario where the US didnt have nato to fall back on. Canada may help in a limited way, but I seriously doubt that australia would step in without NATO being involved. The US would still attack more than likely, but the extent that the conflict escalated to would be limited. If it were just the US vs Iran then Russias response would probarbly be limited also, if at all. Israel would probarbly be attacked, but with a US led assault on Iran, they would be told in no uncertain terms, that the nukes stay buried.
While all this is going on, europe and the rest of the world would be sat watching it on tv, instead of in fallout shelters on the radio.
Maybe America would think twice about throwing its weight around if it were no longer a member of NATO

Uh, NATO sort of limit's what the U.S. does.
I think If the US was kicked out of NATO....There would be a very, very large arms/nuke increase...due to the fact that It is on its own against NATO, Russia/China, Iran/N. Korea...ETC., so that would probably not be the wisest thing to do....And besides NATO without the US.....Would not stand a chance in hell in a major conflict. Im from the UK, and I sure as hell wouldn't want the US to leave NATO, I think that could lead to more violence

I would love it if we would stop being called upon every time the SHTF in some hell hole.

Second I would love for us to pull out of NATO I think The EU are big enough boys to handle things on their own now.
It would save us American Tax payers a lot of cash

IMHO

You mention Australia. They aren't a part of NATO. Just because NATO is involved in something doesn't mean that Australia will be.

NATO really only responds if there is an attack in Europe or North America. It doesn't mean that if the US attacks Iran, they will automatically get involved.

No, but Australia has been involved in the war on terror from the start and if there was a war with Iran then it would escalate to include most nations, i seriously doubt OZ wouldnt lend a hand.
Most nato members have been involved in iraq and afghanistan at some point, NATO only responds as a complete fighting force when article 5 of the nato charter is invoked (an attack on a member state) as happened after 9/11. Australias SAS have fought alongside ours in pretty much every conflict in the last decade, as have new zelands SAS. Australias army were out in force against iraq too.

Just for those lacking in knowledge as to who are members of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), here they are ( www.nato.int... ):

Belgium
Bulgaria
Canada
Czech Rep
Denmark
Estonia
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain
Turkey
United Kingdom
United States

Notice there's no mention of Australia or Israel in it? Looks as if the OP has no clue as to what he is talking about. Surprised? Not the slightest.

Of course this is anti-American, I'm sick of it too. Folks seem to love to hate "Americans". It's irritating. I bet if you met an American, OP, you'd like that person. Instead of bashing an entire country of people how about bashing the people who make the decisions to send troops to places they probably don't even want to go to. Whether you intended it that way or not it hits me the absolute wrong way. I will be putting you on ignore due to your ignorant post.

Actually, the US should pull out of the UN. Americans are sick and tired of being the world's police force. Let some other nation do it for awhile.

I think you have all misunderstood the point to the thread. Its easy to cry anti-american when you dont like the tone of something. Every time anyone on ATS comments on something america is doing that they dont like "oh, another anti american" I dont like the way my wife conducts herself but im not anti-wife,, well maybe sometimes, but you get my point.
The point I was trying to make was if america didnt have the backing of europe and oz then maybe the government would think twice, especially with reguards to iran. You may have a large technology base and army, but I seriously doubt you could take iran, russia, china, and a big chunk of the middle east simultaniously without nato and oz. Er go it wouldnt happen, er go, peace. I dont know about you but I want to see my kids grow up.
Ive got nothing against america at all. Just the current governments actions, but maybe all that will change in a few weeks. Well see.

Aggressive? There are some valid examples (Iraq) of us being overly aggressive, but give me examples of what you're referring to. It's hard to argue with no context or frame of reference.

And we are the world's police force, if we weren't members of NATO and the UN, those organizations would be impotent.

Look at every major engagement UN and NATO peacekeepers or troops have been involved in and the number of US troops compared to the total size of the force.

So go ahead, 'kick us out'. Here's what will happen: we will be better off because we won't be members of ineffective, unbalanced organizations that can only do more harm than good and NATO will collapse from either lack of funding or not being able to do anything with the few troops they can still muster.

America is the last superpower, measures of aggression must take this into account. By no means are we perfect, and we've certainly been party to quite a few screw-ups, but we are a key member (if not the key member) of the international community and, consequently, of international organizations.
