I went on google earth today to look at the the antarctic bases e.g scott base, i was surprised to see that a circle in the middle had a greater definition that the rest of antarctica. Note it isnt a snow storm or anything like that because the center of it is in the general center of antarctica and circle is perfect to the naked eye. Go on to google earth and have a look you cannot miss it.

Other points about that look strange:
The only base i could see on it was a french base (orange, clearly visible, in the undefined area.
The center seems so go rocky and spiral down.
From the center it looks like a chain is going towards space (i dont really mind this one, just something i noticed.

Can you post the images?

What you say appears to be the result of how the images are overlayed in the software to create the globe, from the azimuthal projection method.

Take a look at this,

Dont use google earth....its crap compared to satellite images from NOAA, Japans Met Sats, etc

Depending on what satellite you use, wether it be accesible military or weather satellites, you shouldnt really get a picture of the centre of Antarctica. It should turn out like this:

amrc.ssec.wisc.edu...

Rather than repeat myself, I will just post a link from an earlier thread which explains why this happens.

Anyway I guess we wont know more until you post the pic here
