WalMart Emplyee fired for giving away free...

So some guy buys $1300.00 worth of vouchers and gives them out to the shoppers as they enter WalMart.

"WalMart employee buys $1300.00 worth of $10 gift cards & hands them to shoppers as they come in the door. WalMart first accused him of stealing them (he produced the receipt) & then WalMart fired him for disrupting regular business."

We don't know what went on really and we don't know the relationship between the guy giving out the money and the guy who asked him to leave... I mean it could all have been a different story. BUT I do think that this guy was doing a charitable thing, even if he was just giving the vouchers to anyone. I don't think he should have been stopped.

that's insane - if anything the store should have thanked him, surely anyone given a ten pound voucher is going to spend it -thus the shop gained money so, why do they care if it was from a voucher someone gave them or their own cash, the shop probably got more money than they would have done!

my guess is that he was also crazy, was he saying things the shop didn't like? suggesting people do something stupid? i get the feeling that there is something to this story that walmart would rather we didn't hear...

This is a terrible story! Wally World is a boil on the butt of humanity! I would think that they could have looked at this deed as being chartitable on his part, not to mention he could have taken his money and spent it somewhere else! Pathetic!

If this is at all true,this guy was conducting private business on company time.That can get you fired at most work places.

It's a sad day indeed with charitable actions are responded to in this manner.

Part of me wants the rank and serial number of the jerk who is tarnishing Sam Waltons vision. In fact, I'm downright FURIOUS.


He should be fired immediately.

Unless there is more to the story it is typical Wal-Mart.
For what ever reason they fired him for,an employee handing out free money would do nothing but promote that stores image. Dumb business move. try to stay out of that chain of stores anyways.

It's not business unless he was soliciting them at the door, passing them out is like giving those happy face stickers, he should have been left alone, that was marketing gold for Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart America's Worst Store!

There may be more to this story than we are seeing though so untill there are more details who knows.

Im not a big fan of Sprawl Mart and try to shop small stores when i can.

That being said, the only reason I could see is if he used say an employee discount then gave them away at face value?

But even with that if that was really the reason for his dissmissal its crazy

Sheesh. A Wal-Mart employee can even afford to give away 1300 dollars? This should make Wal-Mart enjoy the publicity, considering they are accused of paying slave wages, etc.

This is sad; ( stupid walmart... I work in retail management.. CVS pharmacy.. Doing any kind of buisness not job related, in the store, or out on the sidewalk or parking lot is stricttly prohibited... The company sees this, as yuor taking the customers away.. corporate CVS is mad effin crazy they just throw money around, even now in bad economic times, becuase thier heads are that far up the clouds...
I belive walmart practices the same thing.. but it was going to far, to me..he was passing uot paid for cards he purchased in the store.. why he did that is beyond me...but still...if he was seeling candy from another store, he would have been fired, and arrested at that point.. in retail yuo dont do nothing without thier say... and what a crappy buisness retail is..
walmart went too far, a simple repromand would have been sufficient if anyting...sounds to me, like they wanted him gone....one time recnetly, in a local cvs store.. loss prevention was thier, and the pharmacy was throwing items out in the trash.. manager was called over, and asked about this..manager didnt know they were doing it..so they fired him...
point is? they didnt want him thier no more, and pharmacy techs cooperated with corporate cvs hand in hand to see his ass out the door...

There has got to be more to the story for example what if the employee had done this before and was warned not to do it again? I believe the reason that the store would see it as wrong would be that customers would see "Wallmart"as giving away free gift cards not the employee and that would be bad for business as Wallmart has never been known for giving out free money.

Apparently it was not an employee, just a guy doing a nice deed.

LISBON, Conn. – A man says he was told to leave a Connecticut Wal-Mart Saturday when employees discovered him handing out $10 gift cards to unsuspecting strangers.

Barry Goldberg said he bought $1,300 worth of $10 dollar gift cards at the Wal-Mart in Lisbon and as a gesture of goodwill, he started handing them out to customers in the store lobby.

“I figured let me see if I can’t make a difference in peoples’ lives, for the better,” Goldberg said. “A lot of people couldn’t believe that there’s actually people that exist in this world that are actually going to share in a random act of generosity and not look for anything in return.”

After a half hour, a store manager told him to leave, Goldberg said. So he went out into the parking lot and handed them out there until he was asked to leave the property by store officials.

A Wal-Mart spokesman confirmed the incident, saying it was not an official "Wal-Mart promotion."
