Israeli Military Declares Online Media ‘Another War Zone’

Across the world, mainstream journalists are expressing increasing disquiet at the way the Israeli government is trying to manage international coverage of its war on the Gaza Strip. Journalists have been barred not just from the strip itself, but the government is now prohibiting journalists from going to parts of Israel near the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Press Association is petitioning the Israeli Supreme Court to overturn the ban, which is limiting the ability of media outlets to cover the attacks, and forces them to rely on second and third hand reports from Israeli military and Hamas spokesmen regarding the situation on the ground.

As the media struggles to get up-to-date information, television news coverage is narrow, and often relies on interviews with Israeli government officials explaining why the killings are righteous and legitimate expressions of democracy and freedom, more and more people are turning to online news sites (like Antiwar.com) for their war coverage.

The Israeli military has therefore announced that online media and the blogosphere are another warzone for the military to manage. To that end, the military is launching its own Youtube channel to bring the viewing public footage of “precision bombing operations” in the strip.

In ensuring that the only footage of their military operation is provided directly from them, the Israeli military is another step closer to completely managing public perception of the ongoing attacks. The military says the footage will allow the public to “know that people killed did not have peaceful intentions toward Israel,” which presumably means coverage of the killing of five children in their beds in a refugee camp last night, and the scores of other civilian deaths, will be carefully omitted from the official coverage.

Knesset is name of Israeli parliament. So by you saying: that fascistic parliament needs to be removed and such - you make a huge historical/political mistake (no wonder, same side with Ahmadinejad after all). Fascism is system where dictator rules with single allowed political party at his side. Israeli Parliament has 120 people (with all kinds of Israeli citizens, Jews and Arabs. With different parties - from Zionist to anti Zionist.)
But all these facts are not important, right? Ahmadinejad also thinks that facts are not important?
Facts should be removed from pages of history and then finally lies will be OK.

I would not worry folks.

Those who fight for a just cause will always last longer and fight harder than those who fight for an unjust cause. When you know what you are doing is wrong , it chips away at you. Guns and arrogance are fragile compared to the truth.

History has proven this.

And here we go again bringing up World War II. What are you saying, that bequese you´ve been kicked arround in the past that gives you a carte blanche to behave like however you want? Are you saying you have a RIGHT that no one els has to kill as many people you want bequese in the past you´ve been kicked arround?

Is that the claim of the jewish people? It sounds like the statment of a little crybaby if you ask me.

Im so tired of the world war II argument Im about to puke.

I guess that explains why the IDF wipes everyones tail all around the area when they are let off the chain. Why they defeated superior forces in multiple wars. Why they took so much ground so fast, that it would have made Patton sit up and take notice.

Oh, and for those claiming that its all Israeli spin, and propaganda, just remember that Arab nations have pulled this same propaganda spin on the US when we have had military conflicts with them as well. I seem to recall something about a “baby milk factory”, at one point.

Also, to the poster who keeps putting up nonsense about Israel writing out to chat boards, you need to stop and realize that many of us were here LONG before this conflict, and have track records that show that what your trying to imply is quite incorrect.

Israel is resorting to the one strategy it has perfected since the day it was created: murdering civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure.

The Israeli defence doctrine, old as Israel itself, considers the bombing of civilian targets a means for pressuring "militants" and uncooperative governments. So Israel bombs bridges and villages in South Lebanon, power plants in Gaza, orchards, fields, schools, hospitals, residential neighbourhoods, beach barbecue parties, etc. Everything is a legitimate target. In 2006, Israeli ministers announced publicly that their chief strategy is to cause civilian suffering.

To be clear, Israel's actions fit the very definition of terrorism.

Let's take a look at the intended targets of the two belligerents. Hamas and their allies are targeting "Israel". They don't care if they hit military targets, children or whatever. The IDF tries to hit Hamas targets. Yes, civilians get in the way, but they are not the target. Based on this, I'll back Israel. NO CEASE FIRE. Each and every Hamas member, be he 40 or 15, should be liquidated. If that offends the whiny leftists and the Islamic supporters, I'm not sorry. There will have to be a two-state solution, but one in which, Hamas and Hezbollah are relegated to the museum and the cemetery.

and to every Jew or Palestinian, and also to every uninformd person of the happenings at Palestine/Israel.

I currently live in Greece where you can see all score of immigrants from all over the shore of the mediteranean and the Balkans either try to stay and work legally or otherwise and I wish to state how I view here from the local media and from what I witness around me the Palestinian/Israely disputes over time.

First of all the general consensus of the public is pro Palestinian and everyone sympathizes their continuous hardships but there is also a friendly public attitude to Jews in general and towards Israel despite some minor differences between our two states that surface every now and then considering the strategic allegiances in this region.

It is a fact that if the news about a continuous genocide towards Palestine
were real the first country you would see droves of Palestinians coming back and forth from and to their Homeland would be Greece, since it has a relaxed attitude about harboring droves of immigrants until relocation or forwarding to other European countries etc.

IT DOES NOT HAPPEN.

Another thing I like to state is that I hear clashes and disputes come forward during 3 times of the year, every time. All three times correspond to religious holidays, primarily Christian religious holidays.
Let me clarify that the vast majority of citizens follow the
Christian Orthodox religion in Greece. Lots of Greek churches and religious communities established since almost the dawn of Christianity are in Palestine and Israel are protected and governed by the Orthodox rulling Patriarchate in Turkey, Konstantinople/Instambul.

Now about those religious holidays that every year disputes emerge between Israel and Palestine, most of times near, around and inside these regions that are considered the cradle of Christianity.

It is Christmas, Easter and around 15 of August, where all Christianity worships the passing away of Holy Mother Mary, Jesus mother.

I understand that Jews have absolutely no gains if eruptions of violence happen at specifically these dates, since it would hurt their public image deeming them irresponsible in the eyes of the Christendom globally as keepers of the holy places and primarily it would hurt them economically since droves of tourists from around the Globe visit these places a these 3 times a year I previously mentioned.

Palestinians on the other hand used to be non Islamic in a large extend and over the years gradually were converted to Islam. There used to be a very large percent of the Palestinians that followed the Christian Orthodox religion, but now this trend has receded.
IF Palestinians are ruled by a radical Muslim authority then it would be safe for every Christian Orthodox to assume that this authority receives orders to gradually turn the Holy Places in a battleground in order for the cradle of Christianity to be inaccessible and gradually to be forgotten. This authority probably WOULD NOT WORK FOR THE PALESTINIANS OWN BENEFITS.

IF THIS IS REAL, then IT IS EVIL AND I CONDEMN IT. In fact every Christian person on Earth has to condemn this.

I am saddened by these occurrences literally every year. Israel has every right to defend peace and stability in this region. Palestinians had everything to gain by embracing a non radical philosophy of living, but they chose not to.
Soon lines will be drawn and I am saddened to say that Greece has no real benefits any more of supporting their side of the story although we wholeheartedly wish and support a Palestinian independent state.

I am very sad to state this.

So long and good luck.

It is war. I have no problem with Israel laying waste to Lebanon if that is the only way to protect Israel. I would also transfer this to POTUS. The President of the United States is just that - he is NOT big daddy to the world. If the best way to protect American life and limb is to carpet bomb city X, then that is his duty. If he wanted to be Mr. Humanitarian, he should have thought about being president of the Red Cross, not POTUS.
I think we will see that President-Elect Obama has a spine and is willing to do what is necessary to defend the US and our allies. Many of his supporters will be agast, but they are intellectually feeble and will always be disappointed with a president who does his job.

I don’t know why you are using the Hitler example to take it all on the Palestinians today;

First of all , my grandparents were living in peace before Israelis came with their tanks and weapons, Palestinians thought at first it was the English Army at this time coming to help them, until that army have started shooting on everyone that was living there with no exceptions.
This is how my grandparents lost their home and others even lost their life and their families. So this is what I think is what you meant when you said “the legal Israeli estate”.

My opinion is that Israel was formed by force, and until this day they have Arabic territory still invaded from their neighboring countries i.e. Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan etc.

I want to start with Hisballa militants the ones that after September the 11th they became one of the world’s top terrorist groups. For example, they are a resisting group who are trying to get their land back, they didn’t have a peace agreement with their enemy and they performed a military action against their rivals. Israel comes with all its military power and declares war on the whole country (Lebanon), kills a lot of innocent people that have nothing to do with what is happening and breaks the routes of the countries into pieces just for the purpose of putting an internal pressure on that group. (By the way now Hisballa is stronger than any other time in the past after the war) The same brutal suite is carried out in today’s massacres in Palestine; they are throwing tons of explosives while they are sitting in their planes on to one of the most populated cities in the world after a long period of humiliation and siege that stopped even medicine and necessities such as petrol and food from reaching people during a time when children are supposed to be celebrating.

In my opinion the reason they chose to drop bombs on Ghaza and killing many innocent is to make political parties within the same nation and even Arabic leaders put the blame on Hamas. These leaders will then give the green light to Israel to continue their plan of brutality and invading more and more from the palastinian land. (Check the map of Palestine and how much it shrank throughout history)

My Question to all, after all the people that were killed today do you think the cycle of death will stop or do you think from what have happened today is that more and more hatred is created and cycle of death will even continue more?

In my opinion also I don’t find big difference between when a suicide bomber blows innocents or when a soldier drops bombs on peoples heads.

These remarks seem full of hate ?... all your opinions are based of media related information that you recieve and what they want you to see... fine..I agree with you about the fact that jews werent treated right but then again what nation or religion didnt go thru these curcumstances ?
Everyone paid there dues.... some have religion reasons, some have personal reasons, and some want power.

The invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq had no result to it... ??? Thousands died...The world we live in today...Jews and Muslims work next to each other in day to day activities and they really dont give a **** !

You and me cant judge the Jews or Muslims becuase of what we heard or read in history buddy... The jews and Muslims have bee fighting for not decades but centuries.... There are many religion differences and other factors.. We dont know what life is out there or either people but im sure muslim or jew both would want peace.

Look into history and their are many facts that will shock you...
Most of the Wars that take place are before elections... The bush administration and their War... India and Pakistan... and Isreal and Gaza..

And what is it that Isreal wants to prove now by attacking a country with no real army ?...Isreal stated there have been no casualties becuase of Hamas attacks then why kill their civilians... and if isreal is so strong why wasnt it able to fight Hazbullah ? Why did they give up then...... ?

What I find stupid about people is that they believe the Media and Politicians and want to take history in their own hands...

The Real terrorists are the Politicians !!!!!! They are the ones that have killed in the past and will keep killing for their own sake and power !!! We the people...Jews, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, or whatever... We are just retarded to fight each other over their WAR !!!!!

WAKE UP PEOPLE !!!!

Nobody is denying what the Israelis have been through, but they are truly a pain in America's butt! And you know it! I am sick of always coming to the aid of others, when are we going to start taking care of America. As far as I am concerned I hope Israel gets leveled by Hamas. That's were all the gold is anyway that was taken from the basement of the twin towers. Start looking at the overall conspiracy. The only reason the top elite come to Israel's aid is because they have the money.

The following is the full text of the comments by Hamas representative Fathi Hamad: “For the Palestinian people death became an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: We desire death as you desire life.”

There is a difference.

When bombs are dropped - that is State-Sponsored Terrorism.

Suicide bombing is an act of desperation, and requires not Government involvement - Airstrikes one the Other hand, do require Authorization at the Highest level.

One is possibly a criminal act of resistance, The other is a War Crime according the the Nuremberg Laws...

Apples and Oranges.

The israeli/jewish people have been treated like dog *** for thousands of years, just do historical research, from the crusaders, to the spanish inquisition, to the roman emperors to slavery in egypt (in no historical order)
They have been kicked from country to country, murdered, persecuted just for `being jewish` .... ask the average `nazi or anti semite` why do you hate jewish people... THEY DO NOT HAVE AN ANSWER... you`ll get the odd person give some propeganda rubbish about them being `greedy` or `they killed jesus) but there is no reason whatsoever why for thousands of years the jewish people have been trodden on like dog ***

Boo-hoo - come people do you really think this holds any water anymore? In a few years no one will be alive that even experienced any kind of significant anti Semitic 'program' by any state.

We can all find excuses to vindicate our appalling behaviour - they never really justify our actions and neither does the fact that 'Jews' (not Israelis as you have quoted - many Israelis arn't even Jewish and there were no Israelis before mid 20th C for a good few thousand years).

I don't even understand why the Jews need a homeland? Does anyone else find this some kind of stupid, religion inspired bullcrap? Maybe in the world as it stood 60 years ago, being Jewsish wasn't easy in most parts of the world and hadn't been for a long time. But things are very different now. Being Jewish is pretty irrelevant to anything and certainly the way you are treated in most areas of the world, particularly the west.

I say - Isreal becomes a jointly governed state with Palestine - no more state just geared for Jewish people - a normal secular nation where the two main occupiers the Jews and Muslims, can live side by side and practice their religion as they see fit.

Rather idealistic you say - well maybe - but I think the main barrier to this happening is on the Israeli side and attitudes expressed by the OP.

Israel constantly bangs on about Hammas, terrorists, suicide bombing, threat, danger ... but the reality is - similar dangers are faced by most nations in the world and they don't react this way to it. As I said in another thread - what would the world have thought if the UK had bombed Dublin and caused hundreds of civilian deaths during the terrorist campaigns waged by Irish terrorist groups?

In reality, Israel reacts the way it does because of attitudes like those held by the OP - 'defending the homeland', 'won't give it up for anything' 'god given right to be here' 'holy land' 'god loves the jews and not the muslims'

Religious pseudo scientific crap.

Also - question to OP:

How do you justify Israel's illegal blockade of Gaza that has cost them all quality of life and no doubt caused numerous deaths - based upon the fact that Israel don't like the elected government in Gaza. I look forward to really blowing you out of the water on this one so make it good pal.
