I don't recall if this was mentioned - I don't think so - but anyway if i was, please refer me to a page #

Okay, I have a question - I am hoping one of you have a quick answer in you data bank to answer this as I don't because I just thought of it - I was thinking - they have given us a time line for the last 3 eruptions at Yellowstone. - But, Yellowstone is just the current location and name so to speak of the hot spot - when it moves out of the bounds of the park - all them years from now what will it be called? anyway, that is not the question at hand.

We have a hot spot that the earth's crust is traveling over - there have been, many, many eruptions - up to 30+ over many, many years as this crust traveled. My question = Does anyone have a timeline for all known eruptions coming from the Hot Spot?? I think this may be something to flip around a little as everyone says - it's over due or 3 eruptions is not enought to give a estimate of intervals - and why is that if there have been many, many more than 3 eruptions?

That's a great site. From the information on the site, "Over the course of 16.5 million years, approximately 15-20 massive eruptions have left immense calderas (craters) to dot the landscape", it would seem that there is a major eruption once every million years or so. The last eruption, which was not a super eruption, was 70 000 years ago or so. Around the time of Toba.

Thank you for that. That is a very good link. I am wondering though - I just finished watching a special on Yellowstone where Jake Lowenstern mentions 30 + eruptions (I recorded it, I will have to re watch - he may have said 50 - children). lt would be good to get the older smaller eruptions included in Their Map also.

If you want the overlays for Google Earth I have the KMZ file backed up on 4 shared. I don't actually know where the original came from. It is buried deep in USGS somewhere but when I tried to find the original the other day I had to give up as I just could not find it.

Go to my 4shared site and go to the 'Google Earth KMZs' folder. The overlays file is yellowstone.kmz.

A 3.3 in Montana this morning, northwest of the park. You can see it very well on YMR

www.seis.utah.edu...

YNR (Norris) looks interesting this morning, lots of very small bumping around prior to that 3.3, could just be man made activity because it roughly corresponds with daylight hours, or geyser activity. The way the spikes are grouped though it looks like very small seismicity. I just think it's interesting though it's probably of little significance.

Hi, I did an audio conversion of the signals from YNR and B205 from
15:00 to 19:00 hours UTC. It sounds like a snow removal operation, very
repetitive, but the loudness did not change much over the period so I am
not sure. But definitely man made. When the Dillon Montana 3.3 quake
came through those two stations it sounded like a double barrel shotgun
blast with reverberation.

Cool, thank you for the analysis.

Looks like the intermountain west is busy today, with another quake to the South in Utah, (3.9) but no notable activity in the park for a while.

Yes the Montana and Utah quakes are nicely lined up. I wonder if it is
caused by pressure from all the Baha/So.Calif movement.

A few pops and crackles last night around 8:00 utc. Looks like they are in our swarm area, showing up really well at pb207

www.iris.edu...

and also at YMR

www.seis.utah.edu...

Very small, but given the location I think they will turn out to be a part of the same swarm.

Elsewhere in the intermountain west, the area around Old Woman Plateau in Utah continues to make a little bit of noise.

PB 207 continues to do its thing. Definitely centered somewhere in its immediate vicinity. Just for fun I'm going to make a (somewhat) educated prediction that we'll see a return to discernible swarm activity in the next 24 hours, with at least a few 2+ mag quakes.

(And now that I've said that "out loud," watch her calm down.)

More intermountain west activity:

2.6 on the border of Montana and Idaho
earthquake.usgs.gov...

and totally unrelated but also interesting, a 2.6 in the vicinity of Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Not really sure - but - would assume (which I hate to do - people jump down my back for that) - looks man made. I see these - which of course I could be wrong - but I think street sweeper or plow.
