Whats going on at yellowstone?

This afternoon and evening there has been 14 quakes at the park. While this may somewhat normal, I dont understand as to why all of these quakes are centered in Yellowstone Lake. Alot of red squares from USGS. Any seismic activity there raises red flags, but this seems to weird.

It is a possibility that there is going to be a eruption. That if the quakes are happening more close together. And more frequent to each other.

Would scientists know if this erruption was going to happen in the near future?

yellowstone? damn doesn't it sit on a 70km caldera?

This is the most activity of this region that I have seen in the past 2 years of watching the EQ seismic charts.

Yellowstone is talking....

The question is, what exactly is it saying?

Uh so is this not normal then? I go to college right next to the thing! Now I really don't want to go back there after break. From somewhere I heard the date was 2010 or 2012, too bad I can't recall the source... Thats scary.

Not to alarm you.. but if the caldera at yellowstone erupted, if you are that close.. you would not know what hit you.

Its bigger than anything imagined.

If that super-volcano pops, life itself would get very interesting. It wouldn't be pretty.

On the other hand, we wouldn't have to deal with that silly global warming debate any longer.

No kidding, I don't know much about it I just watched an episode of mega disasters or something about it once. I suppose not knowing what hit me would be a good thing, I don't think I would really want to live through it. The rest of the US is pretty much screwed anyway. Hmm I'm gonna keep an eye on that thing.

Your correct, it would be a nationwide event, if not a worldwide one.

If Pandora's box was a real physical entity.. the yellowstone caldera would be its resting place.

Isnt it like the more it rumbles the less danger there is of something major happening, Releasing energy a little bit at a time. Instead of all of a sudden BOOM!

Atleast thats what they told us growing up in CaLI

Well, it depends on who you talk to in the seismology world.

Some say many earthquakes is a good thing to release pressure as you stated.

Others tend to believe they are warning signs of eventual large plate movements.

I personally hope its the first line of thought.

i'd bet a large percentage of us would smother on mud from the explosion and its spread of debris in the air.
our lungs would fill with dust/mud as you breathed.

could create a dark and chili planet for a while.

well, I suggest we ask one of the many earthquake gurus here to chime in and tell us whether the fact that all those quakes were within two miles of each other means anything or not.

That's 11 earthquakes (although small) within roughly a 15 hour period, and all within 2 miles of each other. Don't worry, it's nothing- that's what they always say. But this is Yellowstone. Hope they're right.

Truth is scarier than fiction sometimes..

That caldera eruption would take out most of our country. Not hype, just a large sleeping force that would wreak serious havoc.

Holy moly, another one just occurred, that makes 12, same exact spot. Umm, hello, help? That is one supervolcano that cannot be taken lightly.

Yeah I know I saw a docu on the tube a few years back and when I learned about it I was like Damn Antartica is looking better all the time.
