Whilst as a historian I am no stranger to the concept of conspiring factions and unilaterial thinking; these being evident in courts, governments,
religious orders or other organisations world wide throughout history: I think it would be ignorant not to point out one thing to the many now who
consider the whigish ideology of progress obsolete- progress has been made, the world isn't as dark today as some would like to make out.
Look back even sixty years and you will see a world alot different to the one today, a world of violence, ignorance and constant conflict;
contrasting considerably with the freedoms we take for granted today, welfare, liberty and equality. Life expectancy, literacy rates, individual
rights, property ownership, distrubition of wealth: all have increased, something which would not have occured under negative influences.
I would like to propose to the readers of this short article, that life is improving and that those who have inherited power are not
ignorant to this; that it is up to us to make sure that we look at all sides of the debate before arriving to a conclusion. Some educated minds, often
with interesting arguments look at concepts today like global depopulation, environmental protection and sustainablity as a retraction of human
progress. While it is easy to conjour up images in our minds of the holocaust and other atrocities in history, we must remember one thing, that living
sustainably with our environment is not only achievable it is the only way forward progressively in terms of quality of life and survival of our
species; educated minds know that depopulation of the human race and sustainable living is possible in a humain way. It isnt poisoning the
population, takin away nutrition in food, or any other unlikely activity but a universally accepted method of improvement- education. Educating
developing countries, aswell as those long since considered civilised to have two children, whats known as the replacement level instead of many,
encouragement of recycling used resources and utalising sustainable ones, use of renewable energy, and conservation of life on earth.
Conspiring towards progress? Lets look at the facts; life is improving world wide and new ways are being produced all the time in
improving the living conditions, understanding and life of everybody on earth. progress might be slow at times and reading the papers may incite you
to think that the age you live in is the worst it has ever been, not helped by the evidence of conspiracy and faction so easily available today. well
I say this, if you want to deny ignorance do not forget the suffering of the past, if there was a big conspiracy, which there no doubt is, then it is
not in the way of the betterment of mankind; more likely servicing the needs of the few represented short term as opposed to global destruction (every
age has the belief of impending doom). Long term life, which this articles purpose was to hopefuly point out, is getting better. The despotic control
some believe a few to have, cannot be held with the environment developed, unless history has no relevence anyway. Increased freedoms, suffrages,
global prosperity, equality, stablity, peace, they all indicate one thing that as a speicies we are conspiring towards progress.
