Also, posted separately: "A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines early Friday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The undersea quake struck at 2:12 am (1812 GMT Thursday) around 136 kilometres southwest of the city of General Santos on Mindanao island, the USGS said.

The quake's epicentre was located at a depth of 429 kilometres.

A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit the area on Thursday, sparking scenes of panic among residents but without causing any major damage, officials said. "

Does anyone know what the usual earthquake frequency is for both areas?

There are earthquakes of this size going on constantly, all over the world. This isn't anything unusual.

Looking at the list from the USGS, there were the following quakes on the same day:

Mindanao, Philippines - 5.5
Hokkaido, Japan- 5.0
Honshu, Japan- 5.2
Vancouver Island, Canada- 5.9
Fiji Region- 5.6

Looking at just the Philippines:
On the 25th there were 2, both 5.0 or greater.
There was a 4.9 on the 24th.
There was a 4.9 on the 23rd.
There were two on the 20th, one 4.9 the other 5.3.
It's a pretty active area.

Looking at Pakistan:
There was one on the 25th.
There was a 4.0 on the 23rd.
There was a 4.9 on the 21st.
Not the most active in the area, but there has been some recent activity.

Here is a good site if you want to follow the earthquake activity
www.iris.edu...
I have seen a big increase in the amount of circles over the last month.
When I started watching this site about 4 months ago there were only about half as many circles and not near as many large circles.

Thanks both for the info...

The IRIS map gives it all some interesting perspective, especially for clusters of activity.

I've tried grouping some together, but some are still spread out in places. Does it seem the Earth's shaking quite a bit in some places? Almost quivering!
