oh and i forgot to mention the Mormons...

fascinating article sums it up ...

titled "Forbidden Fruit:
Inbreeding among polygamists along the Arizona-Utah border is producing a caste of severely retarded and deformed children
"

This does present a problem in that closely related family members often share genetic disorders due to inheritance, however, its propagation is obviously contingent on there being some kind of family history for such a disorder. Otherwise, in a health family, as the first article you provided suggests, there is little concern over producing genetic deficiencies in offspring from two closely related individuals.

I think the smartest course of action for two closely related individuals in love is to get some genetic testing done, to see which conditions they might both be capable of transmitting (this double carrying is what actually causes the higher prevalence of genetic disorders, as opposed to some arbitrary religious sentiment), and conduct some family research. This will ultimately allow the couple to make the ethical decision to go through with their initial intentions or not. If they neglect these ethical duties, and that will probably be the case human nature being what it is, there should be some law, which requires them to do the appropriate research, or else acquire an approved license for such activity.

The license route is appropriate because two closely related individuals, statistically have a higher chance of carrying the same potential markers for genetic disorders, whilst not suffering from the actual disease. Two individuals who are not closely related are less likely to carry the same markers for certain genetic disorders, and although it is possible that their offspring suffer from retardation, the odds of this presenting are on some great order of magnitude statistically lower.

You raise a good point.

But come on! He is Einstien for god sake, is that really the best he could do? He couldnt get anyone besides his manish cousin?

anyway, for what its worth, here is a picture of their son, Hans Albert Einstein.

He looks pretty normal to me. Although I cant see his hands... I suppose he could have flippers

Seriously though, I have heard that Hans Einstein has bipolar disorder. I dont know any thing about bipolar disorder but I suppose the fact that his mom and dad were cousins may have increseased his chances of getting the bipolar gene (or whatever you want to call it) interesting...

Would have been an interesting note... but according to wiki... Han's mother was, Mileva Marić, Einstein's first wife, and that his marriage to Elsa (2nd wife) didn't result in any offspring.

I once had a friend who's parents were cousins. She and her two siblings had numerous birth defects, none of which were the same as the other to be able to ascribe them to a hereditary desease. Enough said. If you want to bang your cousin, go ahead but I don't reccomend parenting children together.

It is not going to happen. The US. government isn't going to drop the band on cousin marrying each other. And those who believe that their first cousin once remove are their second cousin. Will always never let their family member marry any of their cousins. Regardless it first, second, third or fourth cousin. It wouldn't matter, if the US. government drop the band. They just to much use to it and brain wash.

Maybe some simple eugenics need to be introduced...

I think it's a common law in major cities to have all pets neutered.

In china the government limits a couple to one child.

Seems to me with cousins (or even brothers and sister lol) pairing up, that we should permit the marriage under the condition that a vasectomy is on record. Obviously won't prevent people from having kids out side of marriage... but it at least sends a message, that in such unions couples need to do the responsible thing... and for cousin couples who desperately want kids, there is always adoption.

Coming from a Brazilian ethnic background, cousin marriage is nothing new to me. I have quite a number of people in my distant family as well as friends who married their cousins.

I have frequently wanted to remind some women that gravity works and they might want a supportive bra.

Discovered some interesting insights in a current article/study...
Forbidden love; Pull of attraction felt between adoptees, biological family members

In what remains the only academic study on Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA), Dr. Maurice Greenberg looked at 40 cases and concluded the sexual attraction was a normal response to an extremely unusual situation of blood relatives meeting as strangers.

Greenberg, the former head of student counselling services at University College London in the U.K. and ex-adviser to London's Post-Adoption Centre, says interviewees described emotionally charged meetings and the shock of familiarity as they noticed the same interests, traits and mannerisms in their relative. Many described it as feeling like they were looking into a mirror.
...

According to the Westermarck theory, developed by anthropologist Edward Westermarck in the late 19th century, people living in close domestic proximity during the first few years of life are desensitized to sexual attraction later in life.

The Westermarck effect has been observed in communal child rearing in the Israeli kibbutz system where few sexual relationships and marriages developed among peers.

This left me with a new curiosity. People are generally attracted to others who are most like themselves, in intrinsic characteristics but also superficial/physical. Is GSA a symptom of a fundamental narcissistic human-nature quality?

Um...attention..is this working....Are you all that desperate that your looking at your cousins as a hot woman. Or do you think that Einstein is someone that a person should look upto.

Some people need to get out abit more, visit some clubs afew bars etc. Either way, the ratio woman to men is far far greater so you obviously have more of a chance of finding a woman than having some sick fantasy.

... i don't think anyone is intentionally looking to family as a prospective dating pool.

There are more kissing cousins in people's fantasy worlds then most would like to admit. Makes sense considering all the emotionally laded reunions/events that families go through together... ie baby showers, weddings, funerals to name a few... and also having so many people and experiences in common via culture, religion, occupation and recreational interest etc.

Jesse James, Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, Poe, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rudy Giuliani.

Doesn't seem like there is a ban on cousin marriage in the USA.
