Agreed, I think the primary difference in our opinions on this is simply the scope of the financial crisis. I think that if spending isn't cut significantly right now that we're at the very least in for a world of hurt...at the worst, we won't have a country to speak of. You seem to see the problem, but don't think it's reached the point yet where we need to discuss cutting things like the NASA budget. I'll admit that my assessment is speculation based on what I've seen of our current financial situation. I certainly respect an opposing, more optimistic viewpoint.
