Bush commutes one sentence, pardons 19

www.msnbc.msn.com

WASHINGTON - Before leaving for the holidays, President Bush commuted one prison sentence and granted 19 pardons, including one to a man who helped the Jewish resistance in the 1940s.

With this latest batch, Bush has granted a total of 191 pardons and nine commutations. That's fewer than half as many as Presidents Clinton or Reagan issued during their two terms.

Included in the latest list is Charles Winters, who died in the 1980s in Florida. Winters helped ship arms and aircraft to Jews trying to found their own state in the Middle East. He was convicted of violating the Neutrality Act and served 18 months in prison.

Anybody see anything wrong with these pardons? I dont. But the story is rather slim. So perhaps I am missing something. If anyone has info on these pardoned people, please feel free to add whatever info you have.

Personally, I cant find anything wrong. It doesnt seem he's helping out his own buddies... at least not in this round of pardons.

Until he pardons or commutes Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean I do not think he has done right. Do your job and go to prison. That's great!

As Governor of Texas, Bush only commuted one Death Penalty to life in prison. Henry Lee Lucas is a controversial case.

The consensus of opinion is that Lucas was indeed a murderer. As usual, fact and opinion have become merged. I usually put my 'BS detector sheilds' on full when someone cites youtube. Nevertheless, here's a youtube video to offer some background...

Innocent or not, it's interesting how Henry Lee Lucas could be pardoned. Furthermore, it's intriguing why Bush would choose this one individual, above all others, to commute.

That's the biggest travesty. I don't care if they had tied up the illegal immigrant drug smuggler and capped him. The guy is just worthless scum and Ramos and Campean are the ones that end up in jail.

The two people who were most deserving of full pardons - and praise - got neither. The two border patrol agents who did their job and protected this country are left to rot.

THAT is what is wrong with these pardons.

Not only were they not at the top of the list, they weren't even on the list.
