I received a weird message this morning asking for someone I did not know. Thinking it was a wrong number and probably important to the person they were trying to reach, I thought I'd call them back and inform them.

A lady responded when I called and did not greet me with the standard "This is "insert company name" how can I help you?" just said "Hello, how can I help you?"

I explained the situation to her and she transfered me to gentleman who tried to look up my number to see if I was in their system. He said I was not. I asked who they are and what they were doing and he said he was not allowed to give such information out. That quickly got my attention. He told me to let them know when they called again that they had the wrong number, which was also a weird thing to do, as they didn't seem willing to fix it on their end after I gave them my number.

So after getting off the phone, I pull up google and put in the number (866) 698-2042 and tried to figure out who the hell these guys were. Google returned with many websites where other people were commenting with the same experience I had. But some of their experiences were weird. One in particular caught my attention:

"I get calls from these male callers all the time. The most telemarketing part is they actually leave a message that just has a bunch of noise and uses up like two of my voicemail minutes."

The phone number seems to belong to Empire Solutions LLC, so I go to their website to see what they do, and it seems to not say a **** thing about anything. The website is here:

www.empiresolutionsllc.com...

Some people think this is a debt collection agency, but that doesn't jive with me well, because from what others are experiencing with this number it would have to be the worst way of trying to get someone to pay a debt. None of this makes sense to me, why would this company invest all this time and money seeming purposely calling wrong numbers to get people mad and send weird sounds through their phones?

They don't seem to be selling products or services, they don't seem to be affiliated with anyone either. You guys seem like a smart bunch here, am I reading to much into this? I'm trying to wrap my head around things here.

The web site does say what they do.

It does not sound like a debt collection agency, but still a money making scheme. The latest one was "automobile warranties". They would call, leave messages so you could call them back. They would sell you something, which was basically worthless.

You calling them back, just adds your name to a list of households they now know they can call. For legal reasons, they don't have to tell you anything or why they called.

Conspiracy is a big word to use here. Fraud? ehh, not that either because it is "technically" legal, even though it's dirty business. Just report the number to the BBB with what you know and thats that.

Actually, you have the wrong web address. The correct one is:

www.empiresolutionsinc.com...

They have two numbers:
866-698-2042 and 866-379-1247

These folks have violated the FDCPA with me.
