Russia proposes joint effort to conquer Mars

MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- Refusing to be deterred by a string of failures in exploring Mars, Russian space officials have proposed an ambitious international project to send a human crew to the red planet around 2015.

Hmmm...I kinda wonder about the choice of using the word "conquer" though...I doubt that they're going to find anything there intelligent enough to put up any resistance.

Yeah, "Conquer" is an odd choice of words.

When I was at NASA earlier this summer, the astronaut who was giving a public talk said that they were far more interested in Mars than in the moon as a destination. If Russia wants to make it a joint project, we may yet see manned missions to Mars within 15 years (and a colony in 20 years?)
