The work week was officially 44 hours until 1949 or so (I may be off by a year or two), from that point on it dropped to 40.
If you look at the economy today, we have clearly hit a point where half the people are working 60 hours and the other half are working 0 hours. That
would imply the real work week today should be somewhere around 25 in order to get all the work done.
