Microsoft Internet Explorer users told to switch browsers over flaw

www.guardian.co.uk

Users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer have been warned of a flaw that could let hackers gain access to their computers and steal personal data, and told them to swap to a rival browser.

The flaw was spotted last week when hackers started attacking users of IE 7. The flaw, however, has also been found in earlier versions of Microsoft's browser, IE 5 and IE 6.

suprising how it comes out now, this method of hacking gone unoticed for all these years, must of been pretty much common knowledge to good hackers, why is it that hackers actually know more about the things there hacking than the people who actually created it in the first place? dont think im gonna be swapping browsers just cause of this flaw i aint got no info on my pc worth hacking heheh

I am not sure how this exploit works but 99 times out of 100 hackers will hack your home computer, not for what is on it, but to add it to a bot net. A mass of computers added to a bot net that the hacker controls can be either sold to someone else or used to do some damage to bigger targets, e.g. DDoS attack to disable a web server.

So unless your firewall has a good set of outgoing rules as well as incoming then I would suggest swapping until they get it patched, you never know you might like the other browser better than IE, I know I did when I swapped to firefox many moons ago.

Nothing new here really internet explorer has always been a very vunerable and very highly targeted piece of software how do you think the majority of spyware gets installed the amount of exploits is probably in the hundreds if you go back and count them since around version five or so.

My advice is only to use it download firefox or similar then never let it run again and whatever you do don't browse randomly with it.

If you absolutely have to use it keep yourself well patched with windows updates and cross your fingers.

Nobody had to tell me. I abandon IE a long time ago. I personally feel that all IE is good for is trapping personal information so that Microsoft can sell to third parties to make themselves richer.

I hate IE and I won't hide it.
