Suicide bomb boy kills three Scots marines in Taliban attack

THREE Scots Marines were killed in Afghanistan yesterday when a boy bomber wheeled a barrowload of explosives into them.

Two other British troops also died yesterday - another Marine in Afghanistan and one suspected suicide in Iraq - making it the bloodiest day for our armed forces in two years. The three Marines - based at 45 Commando, Arbroath - died when the Taliban triggered a bomb as the 13-year-old pushed the wheelbarrow towards them.

The slaughter took place near the flashpoint town of Sangin in Helmand province.

Military sources believed the teenager was "almost certainly" unaware he was going to his death.

I think its just completely sick how something like this can be happening in this day and age even though their is a war goping on

how can anyone use a 13 year old boy to kill 3 marines who are their trying to help (although i disagree with the war altogether)

it is also reported that the boy didnt know that he was walking to his death The use of children as unsuspecting suicide bombers has become commonplace in Helmand and has happened several times before in Sangin.

An hour earlier, near Sangin, another Royal Marine - also believed to be from 45 Commando - died when his Jackal fighting vehicle hit a landmine.

Their deaths took to 132 the number of British military fatalities in Afghanistan since the toppling of the Taliban in 2001.

I am not trying to defend anyone here in any way but I am curious how they come to the conclusions that the boy did not know and that he was tricked. Who was there to see the men trick him and then trigger the explosives? I am just asking.

The use of kids and sometimes the mentally ill shows what sort of cowards these guys have to deal with all the time. Easily brain washed to follow their instructions, and you can bet the voice of god calling them to heaven is in reality a man detonating to bomb from a safe distance.

and how brave it is to bomb civilians from distance with sophisticated airplanes, helicopters and tanks?

those kids probably lost their families in 'brave' bombardment with 'smart' bombs so they made their revenge...

I think that you are the one who is brainwashed my fella, if you think that local people will stand quietly and watch your soldiers kill their families for your corporations and military sick agendas

It's a propaganda war on both sides. And do you really think that the people who make the bombs and give them to kids really want an end to the war? Sometimes it's even 'good business' to let out false information that ends up with a wedding or kids school getting hit - it's a media war.

You could draw parallels to the Vietnam war, and many others in the sense that a lot of these attacks are done by proxy - Iran does not mind their explosives being used for example.

The Ministry of Defence released the names of all four Royal Marines earlier tonight.

Also, it has been reported that Gordon Brown has been visiting the frontline earlier too. Apparently there's a review ongoing about British strategy in Afghanistan, alongside the review that the Americans are conducting.

Do we expect the Taliban to fight back with their attack jets? Or to mount up in their Challenger 2s and M1A2 Abrams?

When you wage fantastically asymmetric warfare, you have to expect this. People, when feeling wronged and threatened to such a violent degree, will fight back. They will do what they can to protect themselves. Getting all uppity because they don't wear uniforms and attack in highly sneaky/'ungentlemanly' ways is about as hypocritical as it gets. Churchill arranged for exactly analogous techniques to be used should the Nazi invasion of Great Britain have been attempted and was successful. Apparently we have no qualms of using agents armed with explosives, dressed in civilian clothes, yet when others do it we are supposed to get our panties in a bunch.

Let's remember that all of this could have been averted if the US had shown the Taliban the evidence of Osama Bin Laden's involvement in 9/11. If they had, he would have been handed over, and we would have been free to use non-military tactics to bring non-fundamentalist government to Afghanistan's troubled tribal areas.

We brought this upon ourselves. Kicking a wasp's nest and complaining of getting stung is pathetic.

My heart goes out to all those who have died and suffered in this war, on both sides, equally. Every death is an abomination. Every tear shed over a lost loved one is a tragedy.

I just hope that, one day, humanity grows up and realises that every single time we fight, we've already lost, regardless of the outcome. There are no winners in war, just losers and losers who faired slightly better.

You are talking about a group that this year used several mentally handicapped girls to be suicide bombers. Their version of ethics and morality are somewhat gross.
