The book cuts across political parties and ideologies and speaks directly to those among us who are concerned about the ever-tightening noose being placed around our liberties.
In this timely call to arms, Naomi Wolf compels us to face the way our free America is under assault. She warns us–with the straight-to-fellow-citizens urgency of one of Thomas Paine’s revolutionary pamphlets–that we have little time to lose if our children are to live in real freedom.
“Recent history has profound lessons for us in the U.S. today about how fascist, totalitarian, and other repressive leaders seize and maintain power, especially in what were once democracies. The secret is that these leaders all tend to take very similar, parallel steps. The Founders of this nation were so deeply familiar with tyranny and the habits and practices of tyrants that they set up our checks and balances precisely out of fear of what is unfolding today. We are seeing these same kinds of tactics now closing down freedoms in America, turning our nation into something that in the near future could be quite other than the open society in which we grew up and learned to love liberty,” states Wolf.
The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot
Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.
Benjamin Franklin
Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.”. – John Adams, 1765. “Without liberty, law loses its nature and its name...
“...a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever.”. John Adams to Abigail Adams, 1775. “There is not a single instance in history in which civil liberty was lost, and religious liberty preserved entire.
Lee peered through a window with a view of the nation’s capital. It was early evening, and the sun was setting. The sunset had shades of purple and red. A slight fragrance of blooming cherry trees occasionally reached his nose. In the distance, a brood of ducks could be heard over the quiet stillness of the city. It was a gorgeous evening, but the deadline was almost here.
It’d been 71 hours since the invaders arrived in what Lee considered to be the most audacious and unprovoked attack in the history of the world. It was convergence on an entirely new level. Lee knew this to be true because he’d studied war at one of the best universities in the world, earning a Ph.D. in strategy and international relations. After graduating, he served as an army intelligence officer for 15 years and was considered either brilliant or crazy by those he worked with. Although, considering the events of the last three days, he thought most of his peers would now put him in the brilliant category.
He’d seen this coming. He warned them of the dangers. He informed them of the hazards of the new technology. He gave countless presentations on the invaders’ aggressive history. The bureaucrats turned a deaf ear. After all, no one could challenge our national power; it was just too great. They believed the country had technological overmatch, along with a well-trained army and the protection of half a world of ocean. No one in their right mind would attempt an invasion. But to Lee, it was only a matter of time.

I am open to all idea's but please inform me what is exactly wrong with our government?
wiretapping phones is for our personal safety. so unless you are doing something wrong in the first place who cares....
if someone listens to my phone calls i could give two #s.... you know why... because I am not doing anything wrong anyways.
if the government tracks where i travel.... I DONT CARE...
freedom is the ability to do what you want and go where you want as long as it doesnt affect others in a negative way.
i can go where I want and do what I want. I can go to school and get a good job or travel the country as a nomad.
I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT. If the government keeps a few secrets from us for our own safety i think thats perfectly fine.
When has the government stopped you from doing what you want?
I agree the government helps immigrants a little to much and spends some of its money wrong.... but if men are in control... there will always be corruption. you cant get around that.
we have a fair system for criminals in which you can defend yourself. yes sometimes its corrupt but the system isnt corrupt, people are corrupt.
what do you talk about thats so important that the government cant listen? you guys need to stop acting like you have a curfew and are limited in where u can travel.
YOU CAN EVEN LEAVE THE FLIPPIN COUNTRY AND NEVER COME BACK IF YOU WANT.
thats freedom if I ever heard of it.
theres no tax on food and clothing because they are necessities. everything else that is taxed is called in economics a WANT. what people want is limitless... by nature people will always have wants.
Take an economics class or two and you will realize everything is pretty much in check. the economy is a giant and complex system and has flaws that will take thousands of years to perfect.
but again I have an open mind.... so please tell me. why arent we free?
and dont chime in that I am ignorant. because I really want to understand. But I have watched the movie "america freedom to facism" and many other movies that talk about how we arent free and blah blah and then I do my own research and find out there movies are just crap. there are holes in there theories.
