Heerlen, Limburg, Netherlands - In an age of rapidly rising fuel bills the discovery of vast supplies of free hot water sounds too good to be true.

But that is exactly what one Dutch city has found to run the radiators of hundreds of homes, shops and offices.

The town of heerlem in holland. Uses disused and run-down mineshafts last used in the 1970's.

Not exactly breaking news - but the topic is this year, and I could not find any reference to it on ATS by searching for it-so if this topic has come up before-sorry but I thought it was too interesting to miss out.

Alas, geothermal power is only viable, well, in places with available geothermal power. It's still really cool. Some places use it for electricity too.
