So, I've been reading alot about oil pulling therapy. Not only have I been reading it from these two particular links, but I've googled it and read literally dozens of sites with info on oil pulling. It seems to be a miracle cure all. Can anyone help me find a reason NOT to try this (aside from the fact that it probably tastes bad)?

I recommend it, personally. It is nasty, at first, and it is inconvenient because of not eating for three hours before and not drinking for one hour before and blah blah blah but it definitely has a profound effect, depending on how polluted you were to begin with. Do this especially when you're fasting or performing some other purification and you'll really get amazing results. Try to eat cleaner foods too, more fruits in particular.

It is worth it but don't feel like you have to do it daily. There is no need and you'll simply become annoyed by it. But it's great stuff!

Also, look up the bathing method used by the Shaolin. They wash with hot water and sea salt, giving the skin a good scrub from top to bottom. Follow the method and you really will feel great.

I would say you have about a 10-15% chance to see positive results! But..... thats just because thats the normal percentage people respond to things because of a placebo effect.

No scientific evidence shows anything being forced/pulled from the body by "oil pulling".

en.wikipedia.org...

So far science says it doesn't help that they know of

That's a strange response. Who would trust the medical community to advocate anything that isn't going to break your bank by causing you to seek their authority and toxic treatments? Don't let's be silly.

Pull oil. Do it when you feel the need. Wash with salt water. Use the neti. Brush your teeth with baking soda. Eat fresh foods, nothing processed. Avoid animal products when possible. Learn to cook. Learn to garden. Meditate. Look. Listen. Love.

Thank you I really appreciate all you have shared in this thread.

I'm gonna give this a try.

I'm also gonna look up the shaolin bathing technique.

Well, most bacteria and other microbes cannot grow in oils. I can see that it would purify the mouth and this would allow more of the bodies defense systems to concentrate on other things. Theoretically it should work but all what they are stating it would cure is a little overboard. There are areas in the mouth that absorb nutrients also. Niacin is just one of them. I'm sure that there are other things that can be absorbed also.

People say there is no evidence yet you would have to raise the parameters to find out if it really works. I see a lot of flawed testing done here in the USA because they do not completely test things. You can prove something that is true to be false by using inappropriate testing procedures. I see it all the time in my research. I will not blindly believe any evidence unless I evaluate the research parameters.

As far as this working, I have not researched the evidence enough to make an evaluation. I don't really feel like reading twenty to thirty articles on this either. Been cutting and piling wood for next winter.

I have been using oils to help treat candida problem I've had lately.
So far I've been using
Tea tree oil ( my favorite leaves mouth fresh and clean)
Garlic oil ( gots funky smell to it but really good anti bacterial and antifungal)
Oregano oil ( destroys any fungus *careful though burned my mouth a little for being careless)
And grapefruit seed extract drink with water. (Tongue gets pinker)

They really have helped me a lot with surpisingly great results.
Not to mention my teeth have been getting whiter.

Just make sure to eat your pasta with sauce containing oregano and to add a couple of bay leaves into your beef soup. Lots of our old recipes and customs controlled bacteria and fungus. Our ancestors knew how to prepare foods, that is why we are here. It was consumerism that caused the problem, they want us to buy products instead of us knowing how to stop these problems from forming in the first place. Lots of spices that we have evolved with are good for us in the right conditions, including salt. The FDA is a joke. The health care industry remains silent with their members being conditioned to not know the cause and only knowing the treatment so the industry can grow. These two examples are just a couple of hundreds I know of.

Yet you would put faith in the modern day version of a snake oil salesman?

Bottom line is that it seems pretty low risk and if it makes you feel better go for it, but with all due respect for the "All-Ukrainian Association" where this quack "presented" (from the link in the OP) I would use a much more frontline treatment if I had Leukemia etc (despite his claims)

Edit to add: I do agree with most of your health living parts though
edit on 6/15/13 by FredT because: (no reason given)
