The new leaders of the Communist Party in China are asserting their authority with a wave of arrests of dissidents, according to human rights activists.

The regime, headed by the new party general secretary, Hu Jintao, has been rounding up signatories to an open letter calling for political reform published at the time of the 16th Party Congress last November, which appointed him.

It has also singled out those who use the internet to spread criticism of the government, and has accompanied a round-up of web-users with ever more stringent censorship.

This may be in a communist country that the web is being censored and the users human rights abused but as more and more civil rights and other groups who see political correctness as they way to go, take out lawsuits against websites will we also be subjected to more stringent checks and abuses of our freedom of expression?
