revisiting an old thread...

Caucus Mountain Myth - Fact or Fiction?

Blacks are labeled negroid and this term is derived from the word negro meaning black, but whites are labeled caucasoid and this term pertains to the fact (or myth) that they originated in the caucus mountains. Is this truth or fiction? I also read on other discussion forums and web sites that the original inhabitants of this place were banished albino africans who couldn't handle the sun due to their lack of pigmentation, and since albinism was supposedly so prevalent in that region a race of pigment deficient people were spawned. There you have it - the Caucus Mountain myth. Do you buy into this or do you think it's total fabrication?

very interesting topic and information...
i'll simply add that from my research:
we are all truly one race! variations in epidermal melanin and other phenotypic features are do almost exclusively to geographic location and respective histories on those locations. our environments pressured external changes, but interestingly, we all; regardless of race, contain great amounts of melanin internally (in the brain, nervous system etc.)

caucasoid (european) and mongoloid (asian) races necessarily derived from the africoid (african) race over time and due to environmental pressures.

all humans can trace their heritage to africoid (black african) parents in africa approximately 250,000 yrs ago (first modern human). mongoloid and caucasoid races began to develop after african migrations from the continent; no more than 40-50,000 yrs ago. emerging as new races no greater than 10-30,000 yrs ago. but we are all reflections of the ONE race... the human race

Just to add my own to cents. This is something I pondered over gorwing up. I noticed certain things were animals had seemingly adapted to thier environment. Animl such as the desert rat and Fox had large ears - i think to allow heat to escape from thier bodies easier, whilst their artic cousins had smaller ears for the reverse reasons. I thought then about oriental people and eskimos who had narrow eyes - have put this down to the sun. We quint when we are in the sun. The Eskimos had to deal with the intense brightness reflecting from the snow, China, Japan ect is land of the rising sun. Black and white. Black absorbs heat and white reflects it, and would make sense for people in hot countries to have darker skin.

i will also add that:
the caucus mountain story is rooted in the theory that after africans migrated to europe, there was a great climatic shift. the coming of the ice age and the extremely frigid temperatures that it brought caused the 'immigrants' to seek refuge in areas such as the caucus mountains. over thousand of years; the conditions of the ice age, and life within cavernous mountains aided the phenotypic (and genotypic) modification into what we know as the modern european (caucasoid).

the theory does not claim that all europeans/whites originated in the caucus mountains, but that a significant portion did. it does however assert that the caucasoid race did undergo modifications during, and emerge after the last ice age (simultaneously accross europe).

the theory also claims that during the ice age, members of the emerging mongoloid (asian) race, crossed an ice bridge that formed between russia and alaska. then, migrating throughout the americas.

as humans migrated, isolating themselves in new regions of the world, it is important to realize that their gene pools were reduced. i.e. they mated amongst themselves reinforcing the new geographically driven phenotypic traits.

africa is the homeland of all human beings. as we migrated out of africa, we adapted skillfully to the various and different geographical regions...

this is brilliant. everything begins to make sense when we observe nature which we as humans are a part of. understandings such as yours bring a great deal of peace to ones life... at least, i have made similar observations and had that sort of experience...

'Caucus' Mountains?

Are they America's answer to the wine lakes and butter mountains for which the European Union was formerly famed?

Or are they, perhaps, one of those uniquely American institutions, like the filibuster?

Or could you - just possibly - be referring to the Caucasus Mountains?

Yes, we all arise from a single common ancestor, sometimes called the Mitochondrial Eve.

Yes, she lived in Africa.

Was she black?

Nah, she was green. I mean, her fur was.

Two hundred thousand years is a long time, you know.
