I think it had something to do with him "legally" owning them versus illegal conversions the Waco guys did...

Plus leading a cult that the leader had sex with underage children probably didn't help.

This is not Charleton's Basement. He had a simple one-story on a ridge, built in the 50's, in the Hollywood Hills so these pics must have originated from some anti-NRA nut trying to discredit the guy after his death. So much for truth!!!! (I am responding because he is one of my heros growing up and I will do what I can to protect his memory and legacy)

I must admit that whoever's basement it is does have an impressive collection. Reminds me of the couple (Riba McIntyre and Michael Gross) from the movie "Tremors". They had a similar basement arsenal. (Fun flick to watch)
