A retired TV executive shot dead his neighbour's dog after becoming annoyed at its early morning barking.

Phil Bishop, 71, who directed shows such as Top of the Pops and Game For a Laugh, struck the Bedlington terrier with a single shot from his air rifle.

The dog, Foggy, died minutes later in the arms of its sobbing owner, Sue Currah, 53, as she and her husband Simon drove to the vet's.

What the hell is wrong with people today!?!

For a nation of 'animal lovers' there sure is a lot of abuse happening to animals and pets,either at the hands of owners or others.It seems you can't open the paper these days without seeing an article on animal abuse.

Whats worse is the sentence these people receive.

He was also ordered to pay £60 costs plus £1,750 compensation to his neighbours, who are so traumatised they are considering moving home.

The maximum penalty is six months' jail and a £20,000 fine.

No doubt his age kept him out of jail but the fine he had to pay is an insult to this poor family.

I know how annoying nuisance barking can be.
And irresponsible dog owners really suck.
But that's unacceptable.
There is other methods of dealing with it than that.

Argh that makes me mad.

As much as I empathize with being driven near-psychotic by constantly yapping dogs, there's no excuse for that.

Uncool. If that were my dog, I'd kick his ass - 71 years old or not.

Grr! Cruelty towards animals brings out feelings of unjust vengeance in me.
