It sounds like you have a spyware issue. I'm sure others on this board could recommend better products, but by default I would suggest downloading something like AdAware or Spybot. Both programs are completely free to use and will scan and remove any spyware from your machine.

In addition, you may want to consider running a full virus scan on your machine as a "just in case" measure.

If you would like more detail on any of this, feel free to either post here or u2u me!

I ran afull scan which cme up with some trojans and spyware, but whatever this one is it's still getting through. I'll try one of the ones you mentioned see if that gets it.

I have also been having this problem. It started a few weeks ago. But just continued to get worse. I have Trend Micro Internet Security, spybot, spyware blaster and Adaware . I always kept these up to date and scanned at least 2 times a week.

I went to download .com and got AVG 8. I ran a complete scan and it came up with 76 trojans and viruses. But every time I run AVG more viruses and trojans keep coming up. They just keep going from file to file.

Might have to wipe it. Don't know.

I've tried system restore points, full scans all to no avail. I've downloaded google chrome and it seems to be working ok, the virus or whatever it is seems to be attached to IExplorer.

Download this, it has done a wonderful job with Spyware and Malware. Update it and scan.

I would guess it sounds like possibly Vundo or Smitfraud. Go to www.whatthetech.com and request help to remove it.
They will point you to the correct software to download and run to help them to remove the nasty bugger.

this thread is fantastic. I am currently sitting in front of my mum's laptop trying to solve the very same issue.

The page redirections have become so bad that i can't open anylinks without being sent to some random place trying to sell me stuff. and now windows is refusing to load past the windows xp logo 8 times out of 10.

i reckon the only solution is to reformat the system... this thing has done my head in all evening

I have the same re-direction problems, it only seems to be with Google though, either i'll get sent to a page of ads, or a GOOGLE "this link is broken page" and other things that I don't want popping up.
It has been happening for the last 2 weeks and is getting worse as time goes by.

When all else fails...try screenshotting or writing down the text that comes up, then Google specifically on that, and you may find ways of getting it specifically removed... Usually works well for me...
