Amazing Footage Of Meteorite Over Western Canada.

A spectacular and almost blindingly bright meteor sparked a flurry of emergency calls to the police after it lit up the skies over western Canada.

Onlookers across the province of Alberta watched in awe, describing a kaleidoscope of colours as the rock rapidly descended.

'At first I thought it was fireworks,' farmer Marcel Gobeil said.

'I've never seen anything like it; it was green and blue and then turned to bright red. It was pretty big.'

If I'm not mistaken this already has a thread dedicated to it with about 400 posts. It was quite cool though, especially the police dash cam footage. Would have scared the brown out of me if I saw it!

I was watching the Northern Lights at a cottage in Northern Ontario, Canada in the fall of 2005 when I saw something almost exactly like that. It lit up the whole sky and then created almost a inverted colour after-image that lasted a few seconds. It was a treat for myself and 2 friends as we were all shrooming and all the more appreciative to the light show..

Ill never forget it.

What you saw, the 'after glow', is called a 'persistent train'. If it's gone in under a second it's known as a 'wake' or 'short-lived train', but in some cases (usually fast and bright fireballs) they can last for 10's of minutes, and you can watch them as they become progressively more contorted in the high atmospheric turbulence.

Check out this slowed down footage I've uploaded of a Leonid meteor, that shows a very clear train.

I saw what I imagine was a meteor a few weeks ago, it glowed
orange and white with a small vapour trail, however, it didn't fall
but travelled horizontally. I'm still wondering exactly what it was.
