Black Helicopters

I'm sure this subject has been discussed on ATS before, but here it is again:

Some years ago I was in a rural area and witness a very quiet black chopper come in low and hover over a barn. It was less than 100' in altitude over the roof. (Illegal by FAA standards I believe) It was completely black & unmarked. Some people told me it was looking for marijuana.... but I believe it may have been looking for weapons components, such as the kind used in the Oklahoma City incident. Some of those components are stored in barns, and can be mixed together to make weapons.

Scroll down to the very bottom. The interesting thing is, I have never seen a chopper like this before. The closest thing to it is the "Airwolf" chopper from the 80's TV show.
Anyone know anything about this type of craft? It seemed way too sophisticated to be just looking for marijuana. At the time they were using Hueys (UH-1's) still for that, or those regular police helicopters.

Looked very similar to an MH-68, but it had those stubby side wings. I didn't see those in the MH-68 pics I just looked at (Coast Guard choppers) A Russian Mil Mi-40 is almost a closer resemblence, but this craft was in the U.S.

The DEA adopted helicopters that look like that a while ago. My guess is it's DEA, but I'm open to anything.

I've heard about the black helicopters before, both in connection with the DEA and with other, less immediately obvious agendas. There have been reports that apparently put them in the same area as some of the cattle that were found mutilated in the 70's. I've also heard speculation that they simply serve as black ops transports.

It certainly wouldn't surprise me to find out that there were models of helicopters that were manufactured solely for government use, with quieter motors and superior handling to the publicly accessible varieties. Remember that Bell Helicopter was on the verge of bankruptcy before the US government approved one of its models for jungle warfare and bought them up for the Vietnam War.

Looks like a Bell 222 to me.







The bubble on the chin was most likely a camera or radar of some type. A few PDs use 222s for air support, so it is possible that it was looking for a fleeing suspect. You didn�t specify if it was night or day, so it�s tough to say.

The police are given exceptions to fly below FAA mandated minimum altitudes, as are airborne ambulances. I have personally been lit up by the nightsun twice by a low flying police helicopter, just because I exercise at two in the morning. I have been told that SWAT will ride the skids on occasion, but I�m not sure how true that is.

Actually some SWAT or TAC teams do ride on the skids fo helo's when riding into a semi-combat situation. This allows for easy easy exit with clear visibility of the area.

Also the FAA does not put a minimum on the altitude of flying an aircraft. Most of the time it is up to the judgement of the Air Traffice Controller and the pilot of the aircraft. Most of the time the FAA does not allow you to fly below 300 ft. above residential areas. However this is not always perminant such as medivac and police helo's. But over rural areas there is no minimum flight altitude. So if you wanted to go hedge hopping, you could.

It kinda looks like a Blackhawk/Pavehawk. Until I moved, I lived near Bluegrass station in KY and they flew that low around the farms quite often especially after 9-11.
