A Reuters article made the coming decade for the world and United States as rather, well, crappy.

WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. economic and political clout will decline over the next two decades and the world will be more dangerous, with food and water scarce and advanced weapons plentiful, U.S. spy agencies projected on Thursday.

The National Intelligence Council analysis "Global Trends 2025" also said the current financial crisis on Wall Street is just the first phase of a global economic reordering.

I try to not think like such a doom-and-gloom person, but I can't help but feel justified in wanting to stockpile foods, hold on to other items for future currency/barter, purchase firearms and ammo, store water, research basic survival skills, and encourage my family and closest friends to do the same.

The aforementioned article was based on global trends international research through the year 2025. I found it interesting the threat of nuclear weapons wasn't deemed as high as biological warfar.

The risk that militant groups would use biological weapons was greater than the risk of nuclear terrorism, the report said.

That also stuck out to me. Does this imply a new currency for the entire world, new trading currency, or shift in economic superpower nation-states?

onlinejournal.com...

This is an article of interest explaining why the crisis is so different from others and what might happen. The guy who wrote it - far from a crackpot theorist - was assistant Sec of Treasury under Reagan.

Two words on this: Power Vacuum.

The premise on this report is that America has led a unipolar world now for the better of 20 years. And as we decline, other countries -- more hostile -- will try to fill in the void in the various theatres of interest.

Unfortunately, this report is greatly nearsighted, and as some have pointed out, doesn't contend with one major factor -- the rapidity in which American dominance will wan. I believe that our fall from grace, as is proving out now, will be very rapid, very chaotic. Power Vacuums that happen in compressed timeframes tend to be really nasty.
