This morning on Morning Joe I saw a ad for the CIA.These guys are now recruiting on on television? On another thread I mention this and it was posted that its being done on some radio programs. Can anyone tell me how long has this been going on?I have never heard of these guys recruiting especially on television. There is lot of weirdness is going on lately with the military calling up retired officers and civilian law enforcement getting letters that would grant them first rights treatment in the event of an anthrax or other biological attack. That last part I mention is the topic of another thread.Could this all be related?

Was it an ad for lower-level employment with the CIA, or for agents or specialists? Though an advertisement for employment with the CIA would be strange either way, the latter would be particularly disconcerting. I have never known of the CIA advertising to the public. I've always been under the impression that they select special officers--you don't just call them up and ask for a job.

Edit to add: I googled "CIA advertisement TV" and "CIA advertising on TV" and came across this. A comment left for an article notes that ads have been running for the CIA--comment dated from 2006:

I've seen ads on cable TV inviting applicants to work at the CIA.

Hmmm...If you go to the CIA website's "Careers" page, they have a little advertisement/movie to watch. They seem to be actively seeking out applications. I assume this has been a common practice for a while, though I'll admit I had no idea. I must have bought into the cinematic idea of the CIA. www.cia.gov...

This is nothing new. Full page ads in the paper, recruiing drives on any college campus. I remember talking to them in the 80's. Nowthe 40 page Personal History Statement will make you remember everything about your past. It does however come in handy later to reference your past.
