PART ONE

IDF remains poised to strike Iran The election of Barack Obama raises the concern of those who fear that the United States allow Tehran to acquire the atomic bomb. "Then the sun stopped." Just as he stopped for twenty-four hours in the Bible, at the request of Joshua, to enable the army to defeat Israel's enemies Amorites . At the time, Leeves Raz had seen "the hand of God." "It was my first exit plane outside Israel: I did not know when flying long and quickly to the west, the sun never sets." This Sunday, June 7 1981, the former commander of the eight Israeli bombers responsible for destroying the nuclear reactor Osirak, south-east of Baghdad, had to execute the mission with the most delicate of his career. Six months of training, three hours, a single strike, a "huge tension" and "very lucky" not to have been intercepted by Iraqi fighter. At 61 years, this hero barracks and loudmouth, who helped rid the world of Iraqi nuclear threat, caress, nostalgic, the model of a F15 fighter offered by the staff of the IDF, the Israeli army. "When we did this," says he, it is almost impossible to return to normal life. Everything seems so futile. "This regret the time spent does not prevent it from repeatedly asking the same question that all politicians and Israeli military after Iraq in 1981, should bomb the facilities today Iranian nuclear? And, if so, who will? "Many hoped that George Bush would solve the problem before leaving the White House. Needless to say they are disappointed, "said Amos Harel, the correspondent of Haaretz Defense. Defeated by the Obamania that gripped much of the world, the official language of wood could be summarized by this formula Zissis Eyal, the director of the Moshe Dayan Institute of Tel Aviv: "All that is good for the U.S. is good for Israel. "The election of Barack Obama has been greeted with concern in political and military. "The Israelis believe that it is naive to expect to get rid of the Iranian threat through diplomacy. They fear that it is too late to act, "said Specialist Israeli daily. According to intelligence reports premises, the Iranians could have nuclear bomb between the end of 2009 and 2012. A perspective that all those responsible refuse. The arrival of a "soft" at the White House, which said its intention to open negotiations with Tehran, has revived a debate which dominated the past several years the Israeli political scene. Delivery of piercing bombs 8 o'clock in the morning, rush hour at the headquarters of the IDF, the pillar of Israeli society, in Tel Aviv. At the entrance to the building gigantic, almost arrogant, built in the heart of the capital, girls to mesh size bass, fashionable, and boys jostle hypermusclés hundreds in the baffles, under the suspicious eyes of the PM, the military police, who watches over the decency of clothing. At the 8th floor, an officer belonging to the hard wing of the IDF announced color, but glacial anonymous: "Forty-five years after the Holocaust, it is simply not possible for a head of state, in the case Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, announced each week its intention to destroy Israel, while continuing its efforts to acquire the bomb. We will never accept a nuclear Iran. All options are on the table. " As for him to echo the Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called Sunday the international community and "free world" to reinforce measures to stop the Iranian bomb. For Israeli officials, the advent of a nuclear Iran, creating a strategic upheaval in the Middle East would have serious repercussions on Israel. Not only because of the risk of nuclear war. But also because of initiatives that Tehran's allies in the region, especially Hamas and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon could take against the Jewish state.

PART TWO

The IDF officer is not mystery. Despite the sense of power felt on top of this huge turn teeming uniforms, he knows that the windows and men can not resist Iranian missile or nuclear bomb: "So yes, we are also preparing to military solution" , "He says. Last June, a hundred fighter pilots simulated an attack against Iran over the Mediterranean Sea near Greece. The Israeli army has ordered American bombers F35. The United States has also delivered this fall at IDF bombs penetrating type GBU-39, considered the most modern in the world, able to pierce the reinforced concrete. "If you want peace, prepare for war. The Israeli air force train to strike Iran since two years. Today, they are ready, "says Raz Leeves. Of course, but ready for what? For the former pilot IDF is the first to admit. The task will be much more difficult and uncertain in Iran than it was in Iraq in 1981. Or even in Syria in September 2007, when Israeli jet fighters fired missiles against a nuclear facility. "In Iraq, there was only one reactor. In Iran, there are twenty sites to be destroyed. Most are buried under mountains and we are very much unknown. Two years ago, an intervention would have been possible. Today, it is probably too late to destroy nuclear production capacity of Iran. The Tehran is too advanced, "said Raz Leeves. The inadequacy of information concerning the Iranian nuclear bomb is not the only culprits. "Israel does not have the necessary military superiority. In order to overcome the program, an air campaign lasting several weeks and troops on the ground for several months, "says Martin Van Creveld, a specialist historian IDF. Not counting the price to pay for an air strike: the rain of missiles and rockets that Hamas and Hezbollah would not fail to rain on Israeli territory. And all this for a very mixed. "For reasons both political and geographical, Israel could afford only one surgical strike, under the effect of surprise. It is far from sufficient to destroy the Iranian program or delay it significantly, "said military expert Reuven Pedatzur. Israeli officials and experts are unanimous: only U.S. military power can rid the world of the Iranian threat. "The United States is already deployed in the region, they control the airspace of Iraq. They would only be able to renew strikes and maintain military pressure as long as necessary. Everyone here would prefer they be responsible, "says Major General Shlomo Brom reserves, patron of the Institute of Strategic Studies Yaffe. Red line: the enrichment of uranium Only problem: Americans do not seem very hot. His second term sealed by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, George Bush seems to have renounced to open a third front in Iran. The American administration has refused to provide IDF aircraft tanker to replenish fighters in flight. As for penetration bombs that could be used against the Natanz nuclear plant, they have been delivered only a trickle. Even the anti-radar provided this fall, with officers and technicians U.S. remains under the control of Washington. "This is a real strategic change. Israel can not act without the permission of the U.S. president "regrets Leeves Raz. The debate raged in Israel. Both were given several months of reflection until mid-2009, date as the deadline before the red line that is the enrichment of uranium. "At that time, Obama will probably understood that it is impossible to negotiate with Tehran. Its policy will be more clear. And if the negotiations fail, the military solution will appear legitimate, "says the specialist Amos Harel. In case of refusal of the United States, each advance its solution. Supporters of the diplomatic campaign for peace with Syria, which would cut bases and supply of Hezbollah and to better manage the Iranian threat. Supporters of the military solution, particularly in the Air Force, offering Israel strikes Iran even without the agreement of the Americans, to save time, because the bomb Iran represents an existential threat to the State Hebrew. In the middle, the pragmatic, as Leeves Raz, a reminder that "Kennedy had unsuccessfully tried to prevent Israel from acquiring nuclear weapons" and that it would be "naive" to "believe we can deter Tehran access the same status. " Some seem to have already committed to this end. "The only way to prevent Iranians from using the bomb where they will have to change our policy of nuclear ambiguity," said Reuven Pedatzur. Officially recognize Polichinelle secret of the nuclear status of the Jewish state. But as Amos Harel, there will be another question: "Life will still bearable in Israel when the Iranian nuclear bomb has given free hand to Hamas and Hezbollah to attack us?"

So it seem the final deadline for an attack on Iran is mid 2009. After that, Iran will probably have the Nuke bomb or the capacity to do it. The way i see it. It's impossible for Israel to do it alone, and even with the help of USA, this is almost impossible to completly eliminate all the underground facility. But Israel insist that they cannot accept a nuclear Iran. What do you think about it?

I really think the world should not accept a nuclear Iran. The thought is very scary, and I hope the powers that be seek to disable Iran's nuclear quests. Many dislike Israel, but a nuclear Iran is just terrifying. I really wish they weren't messing around with this. They know it's not gonna fly with anyone. It just seems like the wars never end. I hope they knock it off before we have to knock them off.

Absolutely. A nuclear Iran must not be allowed. They would try to hold everyone hostage by making threats, and it could cause a war with Israel. There are no victors in a nuclear war, remember that.

If Israel bomb Iran we will most definatley see the start of ww3, Israel are just worried the balance of power will be more even. Theres no way Iran will bomb them as they are too close and anyway they have not once threatened to attack them, only to attack if attacked. As far as i can see its Israel that are doing all the threatening!
