Looks like they are involved with some high tech upgrades, including pirate internet for Cuba, and purchasing US electronic equipment.

I'm not sure how others see this, but it appears to me as though the US government is dealing in some shady activities. Almost a perfect example of how Covert Individuals Anonymous operates. Makes me wonder what they are playing at.

Is it as simple as letting Cuba get internet, only so they can spy on their usage? It could be, but then why make it so obvious? Check it out for your self, can't vouch for the credibility of the linked sources, but they tie together and seem to be ligit. I have not dug into the material and it's origins yet, so if any one has an idea, feel free to correct or add as seen fit.

I don't normally use any wiki as a reference, but this was too interesting to not bring up.

The contract between the two countries, which has been independently verified, adds weight to Cuban statements that the United States economic embargo of the island has forced it to rely on slow and expensive satellite links for Internet connectivity. Cuba is situated a mere 120 kilometres off the coast of Florida. The proposed 1,500 kilometre cable will connect Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad to the rest of the world via La Guaira, Venezuela.

The multi-million dollar quotation, addressed to the Venezuelan Director General of Military Intelligence has been verified with military sources. The shipment includes bulk mobile telephone interceptors, satellite telephone interception stations, direction finding trucks, micro-sized video spy cameras, and hundreds of other billable items including training for Venezuelan intelligence officers at the defence contractor's compound in Miami, Florida.

US may have sold mass surveillance gear to Chavez

The Republican congressman made the request for the funds, called an earmark, in late September. The company, Phoenix Worldwide Industries, is expected to use the money to develop mobile platforms outfitted with biological and video sensors for the U.S. Army.

You don't see any thing wrong with an embargo?
But yet, we are going to slip them a line via another country...

Why go through all the trouble, just remove the embargo for crying out loud. An embargo is a prohibition yet they are allowing it via behind their backs. Why so much run around.

It just seems odd, it would be easier to just say, ok Cuba, you can have internet instead of getting ripped off and having to find an alternative means of connecting.

Hey let's just say Venezuela is going to be your provider, but we are their provider....

It must be me then, obviously if it makes sence the government won't do it. Because, why would they do some thing that made sence right.
