The X-43A is part jet, part rocket unmanned aircraft that reached a speed of 7,000 kilometers, or 4,780 mph. It flew at an altitude of 100,000 feet,
and was dropped from a B-52. The jet/rocket flew on its own for ten seconds before plunging into the ocean.
