random thought i came up with, and i have been dwelling on it for awhile. i have been brought up in a christian home, but im not so much into it. to many flaws. anyways, ive been thinking. if we all came from adam and eve (if we follow the christian version of history) then where the hell did different races come from? if adam and eve were white, where did black people come from? if tehy were indian, where did asians come from? how did so many races develop from one? or were they a mix that steadily broke apart? or, could different races just be genetic anomolys (i probably spelt that wrong... differences) if they are, the isnt evolution true? in at least a little way?

It generally goes something like................... Noah's 3 sons, took wives with them onto the ark. After the floods receded, the 3 sons and their wives all went different directions and populated different areas.... and the different races evolved from there. From his son Shem...the Semites. From his son Ham... the Africans. From his son Japheth...the Europeans.

Also, we don't know that Adam and Eve were "white".

And we also know, that during the time of the Tower of Babel, all their languages were confounded. This also caused the people to seperate or disperse.... which could be another source for different cultures to arise.

So, there's a basic Christian explanation. I'm definately not a scholar, so that's about as in depth as I go...ha.

I would love to hear a die-hard Christian's explanation for this, because it's a great question.

I have a good idea... perhaps... Adam and Eve wasn't true!

Haha. Sorry for the bluntness.

You do bring up a good point. I honestly believe that the story of Adam and Eve is a fable invented for the moral of the story - that God is the all-powerful creator - rather than for the fact in the story.
It was meant to demonstrate that God could (and I guess He still can) pretty much do whatever he wants, even if it's out of dust and a rib.

Oh, I just thought of something. doesn't the story say that Adam and Eve's children go off and find people in far off lands and procreate or whatever?
That must mean Adam and Eve weren't the first people.
I find that weird.

From a scientific point of view:

There is indeed a Mitochondrial Eve and a Y-Chromosomal Adam. This was determined by the Human Genome Project, so in this regard Science confirms Religion. It was determined that these two individuals originated from Africa.

It is confirmed by many teams of geneticists that light skin color, light colored hair, and light colored eyes are genetic mutations from our original African Ancestors.

Our most modern scientific evidence points that we all came from a single man and woman, and these 2 people were Africans. Everything else... we're all mutants! Muahahahaaaaa XD

Nice post, that for the most part sums up the Christian Doctrine of the different races, languages, and culture.

Hey everyone. Watch the movie "Journey of Man" by national geographic --i think you can buy it from Amazon. It backs Shahabi's post here.

FYI I have a black father and a half white half black mother and am married to a black man and we have a daughter who has blonde hair and grey eyes and no she isnt albino. Genes are nutzo!

I think that during God's beginning days (1st 6 days on the earth) see this threadhe made many different versions of the same thing henceforth "evolution'. God is like a thought, thoughts evolve.

If you study human embryology you will see that in each stage of embryological growth we resemble all other species-- Ameoba to multicelled organism to fish to amphibian to reptile to bird to mammal to the more like human fetus. It is quite interesting.

angelique5, perhaps adam and eve werent white. they could have been anything. the fact is, lots of races evolved from one. you say noah had three sons and it went from there? well if you follow that lineage, it goes back to adam and eve. how were noahs sons different? how did they make different races when they were born as one?

and another question, isnt there serious issues with reproducing with someone related to you? adam and eve werent related (at least i think not, i guess they were rib related) but theyre kids were. what happened then???

even if we are all freaks of nature, then who is represented in teh image of god? god isnt a rainbow....

Heres a thought--what if all of the inbreeding caused mutation? 2nd line post.

Xyver,

It seems as though you want scientific answers to religious questions.

I personally, think the same way....but I was just trying to put the general Christian explanation out there.

Scientifically.................. hmm, we don't know the races of their spouses. I've been taught that Ham's wife was black... her name was Egyptus I believe. So there's a possibility. Genetic mutations would be another source.

As far as Adam and Eve's children, and the incest.................I can really only provide you my personal theory on this one, coming from a Christian perspective. Adam and Eve were more "pure"... what I mean is, God created them perfect. All of the genetic mutations we have as a race NOW, they did not have yet. Perhaps this is why they were said to live 400, 500, 600 yrs old?? So, I've always speculated, that maybe THAT is why when their children intermarried......it didn't cause the same kind of problems that incest would create today.

But....it's just a theory.

Maybe there was more mutation due to how old the people lived to be. I had never thought about that before. We all know as you age the eggs get old and cause more genetic diseases. Then survival of the fittest comes in. Maybe a lot of the really mutated or genetically diseased ones died off and we are whats left.

Maybe they had more offspring because they lived longer back then too. This would allow multiple generations to intermix with each other to add to the gene pool. Wow! Gods plans are amazing!

Really when you think about genes we are all inbred. We are all 99.999% alike genetically. Its really interesting.

Maybe the rib made it possible for 2 sets of original DNA for Adam and Eve instead of God making a full clone or maybe he used stem cells from the rib to make Eve. LOL my mind is stirring with possibilities!!!!

maybe. i guess anything possibe with god behind the wheel. but, im content to think that we are all freaks of nature. or genetic mutations.

if its god behind the wheel then how are we all mutations? i thought god did everything for a reason?

then maybe we are pre planned genetic mutations. or maybe god doesnt exist. please, if you going to jump on me saying that god doesnt exist, create a new board. and im not saying he doesnt exist, im just saying that I dont think that he exists. concrete proof would be nice... BUT NOT HERE. make a new thread and we can argue on that

Haha! Then study of language should support a timeline that leads back to Babel but it doesn't! Languages have evolved in much the same way the distinct races have, anthropologists say.

BTW people the 'races' of man are barely races at all. If you take all the people on the earth and measure their genetic diversity, you'll find that our entire species has less genetic diversity than in a single troop of chimps.

No concrete proof here but to stay on topic what if God made us to be diverse genetically so that we would "mutate and get better" for lack of better terms? If you believe like I do that God created people, then he must have created DNA and a system that promotes natural selection (ie male and female DNA needed to make a new person, unlike other organisms that have asexual reproduction)

What if God made genes so we could pass on information? Could that be the "reason" when you say that everything happens for a "reason"?

Not to get too philosophical or new agey but cells have "memory" (google Dr. Candace Pert's work) and sperm and egg cells also have "memory" too. How this relates? I havent worked it all out yet but when I do I will post it here

you have just contradicted yourself. you say first that languages evolved within distinct races, then say there aren't really any races due to so little genetic variation. I ask you, do you believe that all humans came from a single couple as was brought out earlier in the thread? Our DNA seems to support this, therefore, humans would have started with one language. when did more than one language occur? do your anthrapologists know?

Another point about language. It has been shown that if a human does not learn any language by a certain age (I think it is about 7, could be wrong), then they can never pick it up. You can teach them words but they never master grammer. This being the case, how did humans develop language? It would appear we needed to be taught from an early age in order to grasp it fully.

(I got the info on learning language from a TV program about feral children who were never taught to speak. Can't remember title of program, was a few years ago.)
