A while back, I had the opportunity to fire 30 rounds from an AK74U on an outdoor range. The experience left me with a favorable impression. It was a very light, compact rifle but was still reasonably accurate and controllable. The most remarkable aspect was the stunning muzzle flash and muzzle blast. We were firing surplus 5.45x39mm ammunition designed for the standard barrel length AK74, so a lot of the powder was burning past the muzzle. I cant imagine shooting this model indoors or at night without using a suppressor or rounds designed to reduce these effects. Other than that it was a very nice rifle. My only regrets are that there were too many people wanting to try it out that day and not enough ammo!
