Gordon Brown and Obama

Gordon Brown (UK Prime Minister) just gave his congratulation speach for Obama, in it he stated that over the last year he and Obama have been in contact about world affairs, he especially mentioned the middle east.

if they have been discussing this for a year or more does this mean that the UK government knew the outcome way back then, i cant see him having these discussions with both Mcain and Obama.
