This is madness, i had to share this with everyone.. They actually have a billion dollar note!

If you think that the current economic crisis is something that has never happened in history before, you may be wrong! After the collapse of the agriculture sector in Zimbabwe in 2000, the inflation in that country skyrocketed to 231 million percent a year! Just think about it - 231 000 000%! Unemployment went up to 80% and a third of country’s population left it. Let`s now have a look at the photos that you may not be able to see anywhere else in the world.

You Americans thought you had it bad, Check this out..

Here's what you get for a hundred billion dollars in zimbabwe

Well, I'd post a picture of what We the People of the USA who pay our taxes are getting for $700 Billion... I would do that, but I have the feeling that a picture of someone getting grabbed by the back of the neck and being bent over a barrel, pants down around their ankles violates this site's TOS agreement just a bit. At least the Zimbabweans get a few eggs for their investment.

I suppose Mugabe realizes now that he shouldn't have destroyed all those farms.

This is the great payoff of Revenge. Congratulations, Mugabe! You're a real winner.

Havent a few people in the gov't been saying this, that in a year or two we need a wheel barrel full of money just to buy a loaf of bread. I dont know if I believe this, but it has been forecasted for the US also. Scary stuff!!!!!

Those people in the government who said that this will happen in the US are liars.

True. I would have rather gotten 21 eggs than what we got for 700 billion. At least the eggs would do something for us.

literally not worth the paper it's printed on. money is only paper, the value it has is determined by buyers of the currency.

of course, reality is different to hype.

the US is in a different position to the one Zimbabwe faced in 2000, for a start Zimbabwe was a collapsed economy in a world of strong economies, the US is a collapsed economy in a world of collapsed economies. the other thing is that Zimbabwe was quite weak economically (as a whole) whereas the US economy isn't too bad, except for the banks. businesses are making profit but the value of their assets is collapsing, meaning they're worth very little.

Post WW1 in Germany saw hyperinflation from 1922 to 1924. One source describes it as such:

"An interesting statistic is that when the War began in 1914, 1 U.S. dollar was worth about 5 German Marks. By 1923 1 U.S. dollar was worth more than 4 Trillion Marks. It is from this period that we get images of people traveling to the store with wheelbarrows full of money (literally) to buy whatever they could find on the shelves. They were forced to spend money as soon as possible because, since Germany had no specie backing their money, whatever money people had would be worth significantly less even by the next day."

Short term, we are in an micro-deflationary cycle. As soon as the election is over, gas prices will rise again (most likely over 3 months). Also, we will most likely hit some form of hyperinflation in '09. You can't run the printing presses non-stop, creating "money" out of thin air without conquences.

The only reason that country is still in this deepening hole is because of the greed and ineptitude of Mugabe and his dictatorship.

Most (if not all) other nations would have taken steps to rectify this situation, but that government is not in place for the people, they are in power to serve themselves at the cost of their country.

Unless America becomes a full-on dictatorship, I don't see this kind of situation ever happening there.

I have a deep distrust in folks who carry those funny sounding names, like Mugabe or Obama. One shouldn't judge personal virtues by the name alone, but I can't help it. It's an instinct compounded by the sight of a photo featuring $100 billion bill.

yeah , its hillarious how "those" people name themselves...

they should all change their names to "Washington" or "Bush"...

Money is just paper, as has been noted, we perpetuate the lie, and the faith in ghosts.
We are the real value of all commodities, what we have now is a theater for the mind, paper has no value, we do.
We sometimes forget that its the people the ones that suffer in the end.

Imagine, in that african nation, some warmongering dictator robbed everyone without anyone being able to do something about it...
strange coincidences everywhere...
