JB, allow me to ask you this: if there is a 2nd resolution from the UN saying the US/UK can remove Saddam w/ force and disarm Iraq, then what? Does everyone jump on board? My point is watch (and I don't specifically mean you JB) what you wish for - a second resolution may come and there's going to be a lot of backpedaling.

Thing with polls they all have a slant. If its Republican or Democrat it will still slant even if thtey dont intend to make it a slant. It may be a democrat looking fro black men who seem to be democrat, or a republican in the way they ask the question. I dont trust poll pretty much at all they only judge a small percent in a area of teh country. I would belive web polls over polls on TV. I dont know 2 much bout the British thoughts about Iraq but i have a feelin here in the states its bout 60-40 on the side of goin to war.

He said that? Good for him, standing up to the UN! The UN wants peace, that's their goal. However, if that required maintaining the status quo - then they'll let things fester until a country like the US and UK has to deal with the UN's failure to enforce their will - The UN means nothing to Iraq. They have thumbed their noses at how many UN resolutions? The UN is like Clinton - keep the bad stuff out of the news and pretend all is well. This policy proved to be a failure with N. Korea. How could have it have not been a failure? Now, N. Korea is a nuclear threat and I don't think we should let Iraq cross that same Rubicon. And don't get me started on the UN: They've promoted prostitution, terrible 'population control' methods, and have even damned countries that have a Mothers Day Holiday (too politically incorrect?) not to mention criticizing the US and UK human rights policy while they let Syria sit on the security council.

Again � what IF the UN said go ahead, go get Saddam? Then what?

Republicans are just as dirty as democrats...to align yourself to any "system" solely is to miss the whole point of democracy. Surely you can't agree with every single thing that comes out of a republicans mouth if so that makes you a willing puppet (polls are made because of people just like you).

democracy assumes the people will use their brain not there fool-hearty alligence to pick their "leaders". one should judge a politican on his views not his "back-up", so called party affiliation. politics in this country has become sport, and not a serious one, where everyone votes for the home team and ignores the real issues that face our nation. hmmm, my first rant since my return...feels good.

ah, but as for the topic. GB doesn't seem to be a true democracy, it sounds like a republic. if Blair or any prime minister has that much control it can't be good for the people just the powerful. i'm just an outsider don't mean to judge you government, but your system seems flawed. we should invade you and put in place a real democracy. and i'm sorry to hear about the no constitution thing...that sucks.

Hi Saphronia,Parliamentary democracy can often appear to be undemocratic if one party has as big a majority as Blair has today.The Major government had a majority of less than ten and was under the influence of every whim of a backbencher.Blair has a large majority of ambitious sycophants who are normally very pliable,however a socialist, by his very nature, does not get elected so he can start wars and every MP hopes to get re-elected.

Bob,Interesting that you should mention the UN and Korea on this subject.As I remember it was when the old Soviet Union were not participating in the UN that the organisation passed a resolution which allowed the US,UK,and others to start the Korean war.All went well until a regional power,China(then not a security council member),decided to get involved.It then emerged that the General in charge of US forces was as nutty as a fruit cake and hoped to start world war 3.That was in the days when the mentally infirm could only make it to General,Today there is no such restriction and they can now become President.

no - I don't agree with every republican. And I do think the dems ARE dirtier. The GOP doesn't get the free pass in the media the dems get - it's harder to be a republican, imho. Plus - seems like lots of republicans forgot their conservatives values that, at least I, admire: low taxes, less government. Having said all that, I typically vote for the GOP or a libertarian, if one is running. Believe it or not, me and especially my family was active in the Democrat Party - some of my relatives have even been elected to public office, as dems. However, they tend to agree with me that that party has changed quite a bit over the last several years, it seems like it's been hijacked by Clintonites, thought police, and special interest groups. Look at the how well the GOP has been doing - and where are the Truman Democrats?

Can some one give us a clue on the difference between Dem and repub, the line between one and the other seems very thin to me...

Quicksilver - Of course there are some misguided people in the military, but coming here and calling the President a "dork" as someone in the military is a UCMJ violation. I would gladly meet this "Marine," so that he could prove he's really a Marine and so that I can walk him to the MPs for UCMJ violations.
