i saw this in yahoo news, can anyone verify ?

Yahoo News

it seems like every other day, we discover a new solar system near us..
the new solar system is discover in the constellation Eridanus, orbiting the star Epsilon Eridani and it is much younger than our own Sun, dated at 850 million years old as compare to our 4.5 billion years old.

Yes other news outlets are reporting it too. Good find.

Astronomers think unseen planets must have confined and shaped the three rings of material surrounding Epsilon Eridani. Three planets with masses between those of Neptune and Jupiter would neatly explain the observations.

press association

Fascinating... our neighbors might be closer than we thought. At the very least, we are getting a sneak peak at our solar system over 3.5 billion years ago!

so the chances are intelligent life elsewhere doesnt look that impossible after all, i am always a strong believer in life somewhere else..

like Eleanor in "Contact" says - if not it will be an awful waste of space

Yep, chances are that actually our solar system is not so rare... Check out Gliese 581, it has potentially up to 3 habitable planets, even as a red dwarf! We can't yet be precise about everything out there, even in our close neighbourhood, no wonder we are discovering more and more every day, and that we are going to discover even more...

I'd take bets that in some 20 or 50 years, we will be able to reliably detect planets around other stars, with characteristics that will make them totally habitable for us. Next step...: be able to go there! Imagine what it would be like...

Maybe someday we will be able to keep ourselves alive indefinitely with artificial organs.... Then we will be able to travel the distance and see this solar system develop over eons like ours once did.

Oh, unfortunately Viking beat you to the punch.. although I'm not sure why he posted it in breaking alt news. Should probably be in space exploration.

yeah i saw his posting too, perhaps we should consolidate into 1 thread, but would it be appropriate to file under Space exploration ? since it is still a discovery without remote probe been sent yet..

i think i have read somewhere that in order for humankind to successfully explore and colonized the planets we need to use nanobots.. which means as part of human evolution perhaps it is by natural progression that we will be replace by robots which carries our dna signature for space colonization.
