I thought this was only being rumoured, however, the article suggests live testing is going to be undertaken soon. This really peeves me off, how dare the government censor something like the internet.

These blockers are generally incapable of distinguishing between the good and the bad debates of illegal topics and generally wipe both out.

We are not China, we are meant to be a democratic nation with free speech. Free speech means that we are allowed to express ourselves online as much as we can offline.

The only way i see this being semi OK, is if the government offers FREE internet to Australian households, however, the catch is that they need to run this 'blocked' version. Let the normal ISPs give us 'normal' internet.

It’s sad this is happening, but here in Australia it’s expected, this country doesn’t actually have free speech, or even a bill of rights. Yes really, there is no provision for free speech in Australia.

I don't care that they are doing it to block sites they don't find appropriate, What bothers me is they think they can dictate and decide what I can and cannot view. It will start with porn, but what about when it moves to sites that talk out against governments, or sites like ATS or even Wikipedia.

When this happens I will cancel my Internet, I already pay an outrageous amount for slow internet.

It gets worse and worse here each day, it’s only a matter of time before we are more like North Korea.

Try having the internet censored silently! I've no issues at all with illegal content being filtered - it's the way they're deciding what to filter.

A non-profit organization that comprises of 7, un-elected, unaccountable people, who, after the complaint of ONE PERSON, CENSORS AN ENTIRE COUNTRY, because a 32-year-old image (cover art for a album, no less), *might* be illegal! At the time of publication, there wasn't a single prosecution as a result, anywhere in the world.

The worst part? The applies only to one site. Sites such as Amazon, some ISPs that sell the very album whos art they're censoring, and even the bands website, are not censored.

See the other thread for more. Where is this all heading? We're already one of the most surveilled countries on Earth. Now this. Does this give us the #1 spot?

You took the words right out of my mouth I’m sick of this place. I think the majority of people won’t do much about this until it affects them.

This has really got my blood boiling. What about writers who need to do research for stories and plots what if the story line is about drugs or anything deemed taboo.If the government think my mental age has not reached a level so that I can do my own censorship, then that same logic will apply when they want my tax and vote.
If they see me as a child then a child they’ll get. A child doesn’t pay tax and can’t vote their not having it both ways.

I’ve heard a rumor that ISPs rather than loose customers will go off shore and set up servers where there is no restrictions and still sell the service local – sounds logical
