Hi,

On holidays recently in in France, I took a photo of a Balloon with the intention of showing how easily it could be mistaken for a UFO. What I didn't notice was another strange object in the photo which i hadn't seen at the time.

I posted the photo to flickr, however it won't show it at full resolution, so therfore useless. So any ideas how i can put the photo up here in all glory for everybody to see.

just tried it, unfortunately it lowers the resolution as well.

I would be happy to email to somebody to post.

Please send the original file (untouched) to me at n a b l a t o r (at) g m a i l . c o m --- obfuscated to fool automated address harvesters. I'll analyze it and post the results here. What's the max size on imageshack.us?

Imageshack (free) has a 1.53 megabytes limit.
I have seen many full res images on flickr.com - not sure what is their limit.

Have you tried just cropping out whatever the image/object may be, and posting that cropped portion?

You can also upload the image to a file hosting service, instead of just a normal image hosting, thereby giving us the raw image, rather than what would be compressed.

Answering my own question again (lol) you need a pro account to access the original file on flickr.com.

Hi,

I have emailed it to you. BTW I took 5 other photos of the balloon in the center of the photo. None show to object in the top right.

I haven't received any mail yet. Gmail accepts files up to 20 MB. Can you check the gmail.com account that you sent it to? Same as my ATS user.

Sorry my fault. Typo in the address.

Thanks for the email. And congratulationss for posting an original picture of a UFO. It doesn't happen very often. Most of the time the photographer conveniently manages to loose the original file and keep the resized version only.

The (hard to fake) metadata and compression parameters are consistent with an original Canon EOS 1000D picture.

I see two dark objects in the sky (+ an even smaller one, 3x5 pixels, a fly?).

The first, 18 pixels wide in the center of the picture is the balloon I guess:

The second, 12 pixels wide, top-right, probably the UFO:

Both are shown zoomed 400%, with interpolation.

Not much to analyze -- too small. Therefore definitely a UFO. It could be a bird, another balloon, a hat-shaped craft, no way to know.

Hey,

Thanks for the analyse. Yes the first one was definately a balloon, to be exact it was a balloon mickey mouse's head. And I would suspect that the second image is another balloon, and just didn't see it at the time. However it did not appear in my subsequent pics.

It does however look like somethings Billy Meier would have produced.

Regards

S

BTW how did you get the picture to show in the post?

Yes

-Host on imageshack (better than photobucket, hosted files are kept for ever), resized or cropped, not too wide so it doesn't mess the page formatting.
-Type [ ats ] your_hosted_pictures_full_url [ / ats ], without spaces.

Yes, 3 seconds later it's gone. Probably not a balloon then.
