There is one certainty of the future of a people of the resources, intelligence and character of the people of the United States - that is, prosperity." - President Hoover

So, I posted this thread origionaly months ago... No one paid attention...

I told my friends and family... and no one listened in real life either...

Now... everyone is in a panic...

I've already packed away my supplies
hope everyone did the same!

Anyone here get ridiculed when you first mentioned this?

I remember telling people this was incoming from about March of last year... lol

This is one of those times... I wish I had been wrong...

It is speculated now this is going to be worse than the 30's.... Hope everyone is ready!

The climate is completely different, I don't even know if a depression that is akin to the previous is even possible.

At any rate, it's slightly disturbing to see folks so upbeat about a possible depression. Just can't wait to try out those supplies eh?

I'm not despairing yet.

lol actually... I'm not looking forward to the supplies...

I didn't go the "freeze dried" route... Instead, I went raw grain and the likes...

add to that a hand grain mill... and proper brewing supplies...

If all hell breaks loose tomorrow, I can make flour, bread, pasta etc... hunt my land for game, and I have cases of canned veggies... and enough stuff to brew up a storm...

I wouldn't call it upbeat so much... but prepared...

But, its beyond a doubt now... we're going into a depression...

The Chair of the IMF came out and said the U.S. is in one... and Warren Buffet (who's been optimistic up till this last week) came out and said we're in the equivilent of an "economic pearl harbor".

we're hosed man... plz plz plz gather a few meager supplies together... My supplies won't last more than a few weeks... but with brewing capabilities, and the ability to make flour (most ppl can't these days), I'll have something to barter...

S&F for you, good research! Maybe additional years or parallel quotes from today.

A few differences:

Savings rate
1929 -- 9.7%
2007 -- 1.7%

Home down payment
1929 -- 50%
2007 -- 0-5%

Individuals with farming / hunting skills
1929 -- More than 50%
2008 -- Less than 10%

Individuals are entering the 2008 'Great Recession' with less ability to survive.
