I found this vid on youtube. Basically they are accusing tribes throughout Brazil of burying their children alive. I'm not sure if this is real or if this is a ploy by the gov't of Brazil to give themselves more power to intervene in the lives of native tribesmen. Since the Brazilians are far from being champions of childrens` rights, I`m unsure what to make of this.

The vid below is a RE-ENACTMENT(I hope)

I do not know if this is the same tribe, but if not, this explanation may cover a few different tribes...

Source

Contact with the outside world forced them to settle in a permanent village and their population fell to just 39 people at the end of the 1970s. Malaria, tuberculosis and influenza decimated the male population and the psychological shock of contact and forced settlement crippled their morale. For a decade, the Assurini refused to have families. Rather than putting their children through the agony of living, women would abort or bury their newborns alive. Benigno Marques adopted his youngest daughter, Priscilla, after digging her out of a grave 17 years ago.

I don't know...when you know of only one way of life, and have very few resources, decisions such as this may come easy...

Not a supporter of the practice, but I understand it...

I watch a lot of documentaries about native tribes, such as Tribal Oddesy and Living with the Mek tribe, etc. There are a lot of things that go on in those tribes that we would find truly disturbing, especially something like this. This is shocking and extremely disturbing.

I don't know what else do say.

Worse things are taking place in the "civilized" world. What they're doing is cruel and I don't understand it but I don't understand what "civilized" people do either. It was almost methological in the way he was doing it, almost as though it's a rite of passage. I am skeptical in that perhaps it is a tradition of sorts and it's being edited in a way that looks as though they're murdering these children. I'm going to see if I can find any information on this tribe to see if perhaps what is happening is being done by a shaman and maybe it's a cleansing of sorts or the children are ill and it's their "cure" so to speak yet the children are uncovered and brought out alive and it's being edited out of the film. ??? When the boy uncovered the small child and carried her away, if the tribe were killing these children/babies for the good of the tribe then why didn't they go after the boy and rebury the girl????

I`m pretty sure the vid isn`t real I think it is a recreation as stated in the OP.

Edited to add:
What could be worse than burying children alive? That's the scariest way to die, especially for a child.

Heres a funny pic, I guess awhile back they were flying into remote places to try and discover these previously unknown tribes. Anyways, the helicopter spots them, and the tribesman not knowing what this flying machine is take aim with their bows ready to strike if attacked..

This same video on youtube says it is a recreation, but that this does happen too often with native tribes.

This article talks about a little girl who was buried alive, but her brother saved her. He grandfather even shot her with an arrow. She went on to live in the jungle but only survived because her brother sneaked food to her. She was eventually found and adopted by a couple.

I guess I was being a PollyAnna with my previous post. I googled and did a bit of reading and it looks as though this actually does occur. Apparantly it is done to the children who are handicapped, twins (only 1) etc, and babies born to unwed mothers. Tragic. I reviewed the video above again and noticed the first child that was brought to the grave and his hands looked "off" as though he were handicapped. I know the op stated the hope of the film being a reinactment, but is it?

Beat me to it!

In all honesty if this is real something needs to be done in order to at least push these people in the right direction. There is no justifying this as 'customs' or 'traditions', if this is legit ofcourse.

OK just to clear it up.... The 1st vid I saw had a disclaimer stating that the vid was a re-enactment. I couldn't however, find it again. This version is the exact same, except someone removed the disclaimer to sensationalize it. I think... I hope.

Very long and interesting read. The part about Benigno digging her out of her grave as a infant and basically adopting her was probably the sentence that struck me the most.

I tried many searches on this subject, apparently this kind of practice is referred to as infanticide.

Another Hakani story..

Edit: Posted the same link twice, fixed.

Yes, I agree regardless of the preservation of their unique culture. The universal declaration of human rights as established by the UN applies to all people regardless of nationality. And especially kids.

I definitely want to be told - in such a manner as for me to believe it - that THIS DOES NOT REALLY HAPPEN!

I can't understand it; not even in a detached clinical sense. Primitive lifestyles are typically brutal by our standards. But this kind of killing 'within' their own tribe is something I have never heard of before.

Most of their violent encounters within the tribe were reported to be highly ritualized and rarely end in death. Only when raiding do they openly kill each other, (sometimes even children die in these raids.)

Thank you for posting this. It is a practice hailing from the beginning of their history. Even in Polynesia the tribesmen routinely killed children that failed their concept of 'normality.' Hurling them into the sea over a high cliff. This behavior however would unlikely leads to what was portrayed in the film, which I now suspect of being a sensationalized christian propaganda piece.

If the pattern is the same, I might expect that this does indeed happen; but not 'regularly' by any stretch and certainly not groups of siblings either. Even as an isolated case the practice is unacceptable from a humanistic perspective; but to render it into the slaying of multiple live children and portray it as a common practice is disingenuous. I apologize for proposing this because it is offensive, but it is illogical to accept that ANY tribe could long exist practicing what we saw dramatized for our consumption.

Thank you red_leader, I hope so as well. I agree it is horrible and torturous and do not condone it in any way shape or form.

Really stupid and ignorant post. Do you really want to joke about a topic like this? Some people are just sick.
