There appear to be three main problems with the Crystal Cathedral--Galactic Federation story. First-- It has so far been impossible to find the Associated Press article that is apparently the alleged basis for all that has followed. Second-- if such an article exists, it seems to have gotten no further attention from the mainstream media. Whatever one thinks about the MSM it seems that an AP story might have attracted notice and comment, if only to question or ridicule it, or to speculate about a prank by a disgruntled former employee, or some such explanation. Otherwise, one wonders just how jaded and incurious people have become. I read a longish New York Times article this morning by Ms. Laurie Goodstein, about the financial problems and family political struggles within this church. Nowhere was it indicated that there was any thought given to selling the Crystal Cathedral to anyone, let alone any organization called 'Galactic Federation'. Third-- the original story's sensational premise, that an organization of extraterrestrials was to purchase the Crystal Cathedral and use it as their headquarters was apparently given without explanatory remarks; almost as if we were already in open contact with extraterrestrials, and everyone already knew what the Galactic Federation was. So, did a time warp open up and let through a story from months or years in the future?! If not, A proper journalistic approach would have told much more about this Galactic Federation. Unfortunately, the actual source of the article was not given, so there is no direct way to confirm it, ask them where they got this information, or anything else about it. Made an inquiry to Associated Press yesterday; heard back this morning. They actually neither confirm nor deny that they featured the Crystal Cathedral/Galactic Federation story. They merely provided me with a link to an AP article about the Rev. Schuller asking his congregation for more donations to help the Church out of its financial troubles. Would he be doing that if sale of the Crystal Cathedral were in the works? I couldn't say, really, but it seems to make such a sale less likely. Chapter 11 bankruptcy is intended to allow a firm or organization time to pull itself out of its financial troubles, rather than be forced to immediately sell all its assets to pay its debts. I suppose that sale of the buildings and land would have to contemplated if the current measures don't work. Could they have a ready buyer awaiting that eventuality? Perhaps. Could a consortium of wealthy persons be waiting to purchase on behalf of an occupant calling itself Galactic Federation? Who can say, really? Without knowing the source of the information, this can not, as yet, be verified. Ross
