Reading through some of the threads concerning the upcoming election, I can't help but notice that when someone says "Obama will take away your right to (insert Constitutional Right here)", people come back with "Well, after 8 years of the Bush administration where he dismantled all of our rights....".

(those aren't exact quotes, but that's the gist of the conversations....)

I have seen this so much over the threads, it got me thinking. I look back 8 or 10 years and my life seems to be pretty much the same. My family and friend's lives seem the same, as well. I can do all of the same things I did 8-10 years ago now. True, prices may be a bit higher, but my life hasn't changed all that much.

So, with all the talk of "vanishing rights" under the current administration, what rights have you lost?

Not what you perceive that the world or that society or that the American public has lost, but what rights have you lost and how has it effected your day to day life??

I am just wondering, because either I live in a little bubble world all my own or I am missing something that is effecting everyone else.

Remember, this is about YOU.....not society at large. YOU.

If it's about ME then the answer is easy. Aside from taxation (which I've always been pee-o'ed about) my life hasn't been altered at all.

It was altered in 1994 when Clinton signed the AWB into law. Severely so. Right on Obamas website under "crime" it is states that he and Biden wish to reinstate that ban and make it permanent. That effects ME and the possibility of going through that again, permanently even, is enough to drive one to suicide. Not by gun, however. I wouldnt give them the satisfaction.

But that's what has effected ME and what possibly will effect ME so I will now and always cast an anti-AWB vote.

That's just ME.

Thank you. I am glad I am not the only one who hasn't seen their life altered by the Bush administration's stealing our Constitutional rights. I was starting to get paranoid.

As for guns....I agree with you. Of course, I grew up around guns, went hunting as a child and see no problem with normal people owning guns. I don't want to see anyone chop up and disect the 2nd ammendment.

I wasn't aware the government had to tell me when my rights were abused, according to the Patriot Act they don't have to tell me anything.

Far as I know I haven't lost any rights, but then I wouldn't know if the government was illegally listening to my phone conversations, interested in what books I read, or put my name on some watch list. In addition, having not flown anyplace since the 90s, I don't know if my name is on the do not fly list or not.

So its possible I have lost rights, but if so, it hasn't become apparent to me yet.

What you don't pay attention to ATSNN?

Rights lost,

1st amendment rights..

Free Speech and peaceful assembly..

The cops would roll up on someone during the DNC and arrest them for no reason.. same thing happened at RNC in 04 in NYC.. to the point where a judge deemed over 1500 or so people illegally detained and would cost NYC 1000 bucks a day per head that was left in jail from the protests in nyc that yr.

4th amendment rights, checkpoints out of nowhere.. not allowed to not have them search your car.. and you have to show id(not Germany).

2nd amendment right which states well regulated militia, meaning there should be no ban on any kinda weapon whether its a 22 piss gun to a RPG.. no bans should be put on anything one would like to buy.

These are things I can think of off the top of my head... I would have to REALLY think on this one but i am sure that there are a lot more..

And ya research the PA I and II for more info on rights being raped.

::EDIT::

and this terrorist watch list that is a joke.. example:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

nuns being labeled as terrorists.

Apparently, I've lost my right to get a loan for a car/house/luxury item which, by anything resembling logic, I'm grossly under-qualified for.

So, you can no longer practice free speech. YOU can't. Funny, because others can.

YOU have been subject to illegal searches and seizures. Never happened with me....but I am sure it happens in other places on occasion.

YOU can no longer buy a gun or own one? Funny, because I can go out and buy a gun and I own one now.

I wonder where you live, because those things aren't happening where I am.
I can speek freely, buy and own a gun, and not worry about having a cop search my home or my car unless I give him/her probable cause.

Rights are protected by laws.

Its all the confused people living under the law that's a problem.

A failure to understand a point of view.

Best not to butt heads though.. like a mechanical engineer talking
to an electrical engineer... that was one tough evening yelling
over the loud music.

How about the right to communicate freely without fear of big brother listening in?

Obama's past indicates his hatred and misunderstanding of the 2nd Amendment. If he is elected, I would bet every dime to my name that us gun owners will see further infringements on our 2nd Amendment rights.
