Maryland Police Put Activists' Names On Terror List

yro.slashdot.org

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday. The police also entered the activists' names into the federal Washington-Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area database, which tracks suspected terrorists. One well-known antiwar activist from Baltimore, Max Obuszewski, was singled out in the intelligence.

According to the article, not just 1 nonviolent anti-war protester/activist was put on the list accidentally, but 53 of them deliberatly.

Since quite a few of us are against the agressive stance of the US on the international playing field, the current course of the US Goverment both domestic and abroad and so many other things, we could all be in those databases by now.

Alot of us are nonviolent anti-war and anti (current) goverment activists.

yep, this is been going on for a while. I've been at several anti war marches in the UK and the police are always out with their cameras, taking pictures of normal citizens who are just fed up with the current war mongering regime.

Several people were mooning them. I bet they have a special file for activists bottoms. I can see the wanted posters now.....

Short answer? Yes.

With each passing year, the definition of 'terrorist' or 'threat' becomes more inclusive and all-encompassing. Measures initially brought in as 'anti-terrorist' measures suffer from 'function creep' that allow them to be used in all kinds of strange ways.

Not only has the maxim 'innocent until proven guilty' been reversed, the word guilty now has connotations it didn't have 15, 20 years ago. We're all monitored and controlled as potential threats. When there's little discernment between who's monitored, then yes, we're all being treated like terrorists.

Whether we actually are or not is immaterial.

Considering all the things I have said over the years on the internet, often along side a real photo ID. Yeah, I have no doubt i'm in their database. I probably have a crosshair on my head from a weaponized space program too. Unfortunately for them my tinfoil helmet reflects lasers and eats radiation.

It's almost time for Bush to *snip* -->

Then hopefully, Barry will do away with all of this crap. He's stated he intends to review all of the Presidential Directives and Executive Orders Bush passed into law whilst in office, should he win the election.

This is really good because we need these laws repealled and done away with.

I know I know, you're going to say Obama isn't the savior, and I know this. Just having Bush gone is well enough to start getting on a better track.

As for the terrorist thing, my local police department, with help from other police departments locally, were providing security for a KU KLUX KLAN rally, me and my ex-girlfriend attended to protest. The cops videotaped everybody as we were leaving, all of us .. what the heck? This was years ago as well. And it was non-violent, we just wanted the KKK OFF the BATTLEFIELD, where they were disrespecting the final resting place of so many brave young men from the Revolutionary War. And now were terrorists?

I would say everybody on ATS is probably on that database. Anybody know how to get off the list like North Korea is trying to do?

Seriously, there are so many different definitions of terrorism in so many different agencies on the Fed, State, and local level that just about anyone could be a terrorist. Even protesting your property taxes could put you in the database. I just see the problem getting worse.

What is your idea of "anti-war"? I know a lot of very militant "anti-war" people. The media keeps claiming Ayers was an anti-war radical, yet he set bombs.
