We all know that Google attempts to monitor ALL web traffic. And considering that they are a for profit company, it's easy to assume that they are better at it than the NSA. Especially when you consider that they operate with little government over site. The so-called "spy court" has no sway over them.

And now they have launched a satellite that can photograph an area the size of a baseball home plate. It's called Geo-Eye. Their partner and co-funder, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

The NGIA can launch their own satellites just fine. But the private sector Google owns this one. Is this a clever way for the NGIA to avoid the government oversight like the spy-court? What in the world is Google, really?

No.

Google does not own the satellite. Google will be buying imagery from GeoEye. This is an exclusive deal with Google for using the imagery for online mapping. GeoEye will be selling data to other users for other purposes. The NGA will also be purchasing data. The NGA is not connected with Google.

"This is the opposite of a spy satellite," Brender said in a phone interview. "Spies don't put info on the internet and sell imagery. We're an Earth-imaging satellite, and we can sell our imagery to customers around the world who have a need to map and measure and monitor things on the ground."

BTW, it's a good idea to include a link for your source.
