Your link wasn't working for me. Here's one direct to the NYT story.

When Afghan security forces found an enormous cache of heroin hidden beneath concrete blocks in a tractor-trailer outside Kandahar in 2004, the local Afghan commander quickly impounded the truck and notified his boss.

Before long, the commander, Habibullah Jan, received a telephone call from Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of President Hamid Karzai, asking him to release the vehicle and the drugs, Mr. Jan later told American investigators, according to notes from the debriefing obtained by The New York Times. He said he complied after getting a phone call from an aide to President Karzai directing him to release the truck.

Of course Karzai and his family are thick as thieves with the opium and heroin trafficking going on in Afghanistan. That's why he is in power, and he will only stay in power so long as he delivers the goods to the West.

The article that infowars.com links to is a much broader article. I think this is pretty messed up too.

Hamid Karzai has a Billy Carter-like brother. A Roger Clinton. Whaddya know?

Reports Link Karzai’s Brother to Afghanistan Heroin Trade

Several American investigators said senior officials at the D.E.A. and the office of the Director of National Intelligence complained to them that the White House favored a hands-off approach toward Ahmed Wali Karzai because of the political delicacy of the matter. But White House officials dispute that, instead citing limited D.E.A. resources in Kandahar and southern Afghanistan and the absence of political will in the Afghan government to go after major drug suspects as the reasons for the lack of an inquiry.

“We invested considerable resources into building Afghan capability to conduct such investigations and consistently encouraged Karzai to take on the big fish and address widespread Afghan suspicions about the link between his brother and narcotics,” said Meghan O’Sullivan, who was the coordinator for Afghanistan and Iraq at the National Security Council until last year.

It was not clear whether President Bush had been briefed on the matter.Humayun Hamidzada, press secretary for President Karzai, denied that the president’s brother was involved in drug trafficking or that the president had intervened to help him. “People have made allegations without proof,” Mr. Hamidzada said.

Spokesmen for the Drug Enforcement Administration, the State Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment.

He must be the "Black Sheep" of the family.

Good thread! S&F.

The US government knows exactly what is going on. The S&B organization was founded with money made from opium and heroin smuggling.

The White House says it believes that Ahmed Wali Karzai is involved in drug trafficking, and American officials have repeatedly warned President Karzai that his brother is a political liability, two senior Bush administration officials said in interviews last week.

They aren't black sheep, they are a pack of wolves in sheep's clothing, and the disguise is wearing a bit thin these days.

I was being facetious. It's been reported that since the U.S. invaded and drove the Taliban out, Opium production has gone up 500% + compared to pre-invasion numbers.
Of course Karzai's brother is in the business. Who else would get the job of overseeing the country's real cash bringer. We put Karzai into the seat of Power there and don't you think we'd look into immediate family of such a person?
The US knows exactly what this guy is doing and the CIA can't afford to screw up the money train. So, they supress it as "political stunts" and move on.
Remember folks. More power comes from more money. Money has to be generated and what are the three bigest moneymakers?

Sex
Drugs
Arms sales.

In that order. Look for these moneymakers anywhere and follow the paths to who runs the industry. He'll be connected.

I get you now. It amazes me how duplicitous these animals are. When I hear them talk these days, it all seems tongue in cheek, like they are referring to themselves in the third person when the speak of the terrorist menace.

So now it is confirmed that members of the puppet government of Afghanistan are in on the opium, and heroin refining business. I guess the question that comes after this confirmation is how are they getting the opium and heroin to the streets on the world market? Military connections? Military contractors? OR the heroin rings out of Africa that were always (supposedly) supplying the product to the inner city, and now suburban streets of America and other foreign countries?Or some other unknown group?

When the entire "WoT" started shortly after 9/11, living in the Detroit area myself, it was highly noticeable there was a large influx of raw opium, high grade heroin almost within weeks of the invasion. Was it coming from the resident Muslim population residing in a suburb of Detroit, or from the African based heroin rings that ship directly to Detroit for distribution to the rest of our country? Military or contractors?

These are some good questions that need to be investigated. Unfortunately it would be way to risky for those that know to come forward. I wouldn't even dare stick my neck into anything concerning this subject to find out the answers to the sources flooding the markets. There is too much money involved in this for the perpetrators.

The going rate for a kilo of high grade heroin is insane. There is a lot of money in this trade. America or any other country for that matter could easily pay to fund a worldwide takeover with the profits if they decided to go that route by dumping it on the streets anywhere in the world.

Some off topic facts, did you know that we have reserves of raw opium stored in Fort Knox in case of emergencies? Right next to the bricks of gold, if they are still there!

You call them facts, but, facts need some documentation. What do you have to back up this statement of fact? Where do you get this information?
I'm not being an ass, this is just the first time I've heard of raw reserves of opium in Ft. Knox. I'd like some more regarding this tidbit.

Please?

I actually watched it on the history channel *cough*

community.seattletimes.nwsource.com...

google it, opium reserves Fort Knox. Why call someone out on something like that? Opium is a very valuable natural resource, wars have been fought over it since our existence. It is stored there in case of a cataclysmic event, and or shortage of morphine and the assorted pain killers derived from the raw material.

Aww, I wasn't calling you out. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be an ass, I just wanted more information on it because I had never heard that. Thank you for providing a link.
I was going to say something in relation to the "Shelf life" of the opium, but, the bottom of the article you linked to answered the question with:

Fort Knox Vaults Harbor Millions In Opium, Morphine -- Stockpile Held For Emergencies

Instead, the agency contracted with the NORAMCO company of Delaware to convert the remaining opium into morphine sulphate. The conversion means the agency will have to hold onto the drugs for years or destroy them and lose the multimillion-dollar investment.

Thanks man!

I've said before I don't think it is necessarily the drug but possibly other additives that are the real threat with snorted, ingested, or injected heroin. Think of the posssibilities for introduction of nanobots or biological implant organisms that having a large population addicted to such a substance provides. The control that can be exerted from the addiction alone is potentially more valuable than the profits associated with the trade. When you get right down to it, its all about control; getting people to do what you want them to, when you want them to do it.

My somewhat conspiratorial mindset tells me profit is but one facet of the global narcotics trade.
