AmethystWolf- Well at least the public school is allowing your daughter to read high quality science fiction.
'Flowers for Algernon' is a wonderfull book and,religious propaganda notwithstanding,she'll probably take a lot away from Daniel Keye's book.
As for the assignment,perhaps she could equate Algernon's newly found
intellectual consciousness with the value of enlightened,rational free-thinking (and freedom from centuries of superstition and ignorance).
