Steve Fossett's Plane Wreckage Possibly Found in California

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — Search teams combing a rugged part of eastern California for any sign of Steve Fossett, the adventurer who vanished on a solo flight more than a year ago, have spotted what appeared to be wreckage.

Searchers had been combing a 10-mile radius around the spot where a hiker had found what appeared to be a pilot's license and other items belonging to Fossett earlier in the week.

It appears that the earlier find of Fossett’s IDs has led to the discovery of an unknown plane wreck.

The odds of discovering both in close proximity are large but this could still be another aircraft.

It's about time they found the crash site. I wonder how many others there are that they don't even know about yet.

Did they not find around 10 other aircraft that had crashed when they first looked for him? I hope that they find him for the family so they can lay him to rest and sleep at peace.

Yes I believe they did discover a number of old air crashes some of which were military.

This really shows how much of a wilderness much of the USA still is.

Why do so many planes crash in this specific area?
To me it sounds like another Bermuda triangle without the water.
Apparently hundreds of planes have crashed there only 1/3 ever found.
