I saw McCain make the proposal again during the NBC Nightly newscast. So he's serious. He really thinks that Bush should just spend $1 trillion without talking to Congress, without seeking approval, without building any sort of consensus -- without getting any protections whatsoever for taxpayers.

Is this not a damning statement? This seems like a sucker-punch to the american citizen. You don't matter. Of course they will spin it that politics would prevent an action, but we all saw the people's voice on the first bail-out rejection. So it was for show, it still looked cool.

I cannot begin to understand what the strategy is.

Maybe he decided he doesn't want to be president afterall. Is possible . He can't withdraw or appear half-hearted, so he will occassionally slip out such deplorable comments.

No one other than the bankers, and Bush and Pelosi's family members want this bill to pass. lol

I am honestly scratching my head on the thought-processing that conjured up this idea. Perhaps it was a slip of the tongue and his ego refuses a public retraction? It's possible.

There is no campaign manager per se. They're all "aides".

We will see how he defends it in the next presidential debate.

We should expect them to empty the treasury if an Obama win becomes inevitable.

This has nothing to do with Bush or executive orders He's quite right, the treasury and the Fed have a huge amount of money they can use as they please. All that money the Fed has been using for loans doesn't need approval, it's their money. All he's saying is that the Treasury, which has this money, should be spending it rather than waiting around for Congress. I agree, if they have the money, they should spend it, even though it won't fix the problem, neither will Congress' plan, so it doesn't matter. People should be asking why the Treasury isn't doing what it can, this isn't a Bush/McCain/Obama issue.
