Actually I'd say it's a pretty realistic outlook. If we use the same logic that indicates the probability of other life in the universe, we could
rightly assume there really is nothing that unique about us. If an alien species can travel among the stars, it stands to reason they have encountered
many other species of life beyond us.
This brings to mind all of the movies where mankind encounters another alien species; the aliens always have some pithy observation about humanity,
whether it be our capacity for love, humor, or our dualistic nature in being both bad and good. Why would we be so unique in these ways? Would other
life throughout the universe not develop similar characteristics?
I think this assumed uniqueness speaks more about our ego than it does about probability.
